I would like to get a real answer on this.

Where in the Bible does it talk about contraception???

I understand the other issues, but not contraception.

Why worry about what the Bible talks about when you have a Pope to interpret scripture for you.

“Subverting the sovereignty of God: the deliberate act of rendering a sexual act infertile

Genesis 38:8-10

The Bible contains teachings relevant to contraception on a variety of levels. The most direct of these references is Genesis 38:8-10, the Onan Incident:

Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” And Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so it came about that when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground, in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, so He took his life also.

Though God was certainly displeased with Onan’s disobedience to the Levirate Law: that is, the obligation of a man to sow children with his dead brother’s widow, his punishment for Onan far exceeded the penalty mandated for such a crime. According to Deuteronomy 25:5-10, the penalty is for the slighted widow to publicly humiliate the offender. God’s enactment of the death penalty for Onan indicates a heightened seriousness in the offense. The only additional element to Onan’s refusal to provide offspring is his choice to make the sexual act deliberately infertile by withdrawal.”

It's interpreted Church canon. There's the whole "be fruitful and multiply" thing, along with inferred lessons from the sin of Onan.

My husband is Catholic and we had to go to his church for pre-marriage counseling, even though we were to be married in my church with my preacher. A couple tried to explain the taboo on contraception to us, but it was like the game Six Degrees of Separation. You know, everything is related to the next but yet the first thing has nothing to do with the last. Anyway, they told me that NFP was okay, and I asked what the difference was between NFP and contraception. They could not answer. To me, abstaining from sex during fertile periods is birth control.

Contraception is usurping God’s domaine. If you believe that God creates life (I do), then why would you use contraception to prevent God from creating life?

Also, with contraception women become mere sex toys.

Yours truly,

I think it is probably going to go back to Leviticus in the OT. To find it, you might want to search “issue” or “ground”. I seem to recall there is something about your “issue on the ground” or something similar. I think that may have had more to do with abusing oneself as anything. I don’t recall ever seeing anything pertaining to women and contraception. I know I have been absolutely NO help. :)

It isn't discussed. But in the Old Testament, one of Judah's sons "emitted" on the ground to keep his brother's wife from getting pregnant and it displeased God. Genesis 38:1-10
Not sure if that is the catch all for the ban contraception
