SAN FRANCISCO, Actor Sean Penn and Peace Activist Cindy Sheehan will headline "Iraq: 5 Years Too Many", an event marking the fifth anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq. Also featured will be Reverend Gregory Stewart, Senior Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church; Matt Gonzalez, former President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; and Justin Raimondo, Editorial Director of Antiwar.com.
The program will begin at 5pm on Sunday, March 16th, 2008 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1187 Franklin Street (near Geary) in San Francisco. After the speakers finish, attendees will march to the War Memorial Auditorium on Van Ness Avenue the names of Americans and Iraqis killed in the war.
Event organizers are calling for an End to the Iraq Occupation Now, Accountability for Those Who Started the War and No War in Iran. Thus far, the U.S. invasion of Iraq has resulted in 4000 American military deaths, nearly 30,000 injuries, and several hundred thousand Iraqi casualties.
Spending on the war thus far has exceeded $500 billion and continues at a rate of $275 million per day -- with no end in sight.
The suggested donation for the event is $5-$10, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. The program is sponsored by the Iraq Moratorium - SF Bay Area and other local peace groups. A poster for the event is available at http://www.iraqmoratorium-sfbay.org/2008-03-16-Poster.pdf.

Anybody know a zoo that would be willing to rent some dung-flinging monkeys?
Anybody know the dollar cost of running a peacetime military vs a wartime military. The numbers keep getting thrown around but how much of that would still have to be spent. Just wondering.
Wow, two losers who have a combined IQ of 3 speaking before a room of “know-nothings” with a combined IQ of 7.
Event needs to be renamed:
Five Idiots Too Many
I see Sean Penn is following in his fathers footsteps. Look for his goofy cocaine buddy Chavez to help out.
Saddam started the war and has been held accountable by Bush and the people of Iraq. Next issue!
"Spending on welfare thus far has exceeded $8 trillion and continues at a rate of $2 billion per day -- with no end in sight."
Fixed it!
How many events did this bunch hold to protest our invasion of Bosnia, Kosovo, Somalia, or Haiti? Oh, I forgot, those were under a Democrat president...
Pray for a major earthquake - maybe a tsunami too.
ABORTION - 40 MILLION TOO MANY!
Let's not forget the UN.
Nor Slick Willy!
"CLINTON: Good evening.
Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.
The hard fact is that so long as Saddam remains in power, he threatens the well-being of his people, the peace of his region, the security of the world.
The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people."
