TROY — The Sanctuary for Independent Media will host a controversial exhibit in which an artist portrays himself as a suicide bomber on a mission to kill the president starting at 6 p.m. Monday.

The exhibit, created by Wafaa Bilal, is described as a “Virtual Jihadi” and was recently suspended by officials at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute because of concerns about its intent and al-Qaida content.

“Like many others, I did not have a chance to see Wafaa’s exhibit in its original form and hope the community will take advantage of this chance to appreciate it,” said Steve Pierce, an adjunct professor at RPI and founder of the independent media outlet, who explained that the exhibit would be part of a series of events focusing on art and democracy.

Bilal’s piece is based on a 2003 video game called “Quest for Saddam” that involved players targeting the ex-Iraqi leader. That inspired an al-Qaida-produced spin-off called “The Night of Bush Capturing.” For his piece, Bilal said he hacked into the al-Qaida game and inserted himself as a suicide bomber who is sent on a mission to kill President Bush.

"I did not have a chance to see Wafaa’s exhibit in its original form and hope the community will take advantage of this chance to appreciate it,” said Steve Pierce. A real winner.

Wafaa Bilal , the Iraqi dog who created this, graced our country with his presenct in 1992. Now he's a "citizen". How come we cant't deport vermin like this? We used to deport mafioso back in the day.

I will be sure to call him up later today and provide him full contact details, along with a detailed directions as to what he can do with that information.

Mr Couch is one Republican that should be booted from both the party, and his job, by his constituents

It is against the law to even whisper the words “kill the president”. This guy SHOULD BE ARRESTED NOW.
