Sounds like they’re setting themselves up for a return of the Black Plague. No cats = neck-deep in rats (and their fleas).

Couldn’t happen to a “nicer” group.

My thinking was as such. I don’t think they would care one iota if the black plague killed off 100 million chinese. Although knowing how soulless communist rulers can be, maybe that’s what they want...

Don’t worry. Once the rats take over, they’ll bring in those predator monkeys to clear them out, as they’ve done in India.

Then they’ll bring in the bigger apes to clear out the predator monkeys.

Then they’ll bring in panthers to kill the apes.

Then they’ll bring in elephants to stomp out the panthers.

See how it works? Nothing to worry about... ;)

I believe in 60s they exterminated sparrows (because they ate grains and “reduced” therefore crops) only to have buy them abroad a few years later when insects really reduced the crops.

Have they ever really gotten rid of it? The southwestern U.S became a reservoir after the Chinese railway workers brought it with them. There's a case every year or so.

You aren't kidding. Particularly when the norm for trash disposal in China is just to dump it in the streets.

Cats are the most ecological friendly method of rodent control out there. Their bond to humans dates back thousands of years when man first embraced agriculture and cats "adopted" man in return for keeping rodents out of our grain storage area.

A little rice and rat meat. Quite satisfying on a wet tropical evening.

They'll eat them, too.

Relative to this thread, remember a couple of years ago, they were selling these "toy" stuffed cats to our stores? People brought them home, and their cats were sniffing them, etc.

The "Toys" were made of real cat fur. One cat owner (employee) posted that she buried hers, more or less giving the "Toy" a funeral.

It is hard to realize that in other cultures, people have little value for the things we cherish. A person I met from Eastern Europe once told me, "You Americans just do not know that in many places, your life is not worth shit anything!". How, then, will they treat their animals? As well as humans are treated in Zimbabwe or North Korea?

My cats are friends of mine: Best Friends. So this post is written with a lot of restraint...There is much I would say over a beer, at 90 decibels.

***Sounds like they’re setting themselves up for a return of the Black Plague. No cats = neck-deep in rats (and their fleas).***

Back in the mid 1600’s England, it was believed that cats and dogs helped spread the plague so they were killed off. Someone mentioned that with all the cats and dogs being killed the rats were free to multiply, as cats and dogs had been killing rats.

Then the plague really hit.

Tis was mentioned in a 45 year old old book of mine THE PLAGUE AND THE FIRE.

Good point, I’d not thought of that.
Guess I’ll stop using them as speed bumps.
