A longtime Republican district fell to the Democrats Saturday when a wealthy businessman and scientist snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election. Democrat Bill Foster won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis. With 565 of 568 precincts reporting, Foster had 51,140 votes to Oberweis' 46,270.

Someone needs to explain to the American people why “free” this or “free” that is harmful

Good luck with that.

The most unpopular message in the world is "Your government is not your nanny. Take care of your own problems."

Politicians who say that either never get elected or are thrown out.

Government IS a pig trough of money right now and the people know it. They have concluded it is just a matter of demanding your own piece of the action from the politicians. (There is so much gubmint money there, there must be some for ME!)

In fact, people have decided they are suckers if they don't try to get some of that "free" money.

I heard an employee at Radio Shack the other day tell a customer to get his $40 voucher from the federal gubmint to help purchase his digital converter for his TV.

What the hell is the federal gubmint doing giving people vouchers to upgrade their TV sets?

Why don't the politicans just promise to buy new digital, high definition TV's for everyone?

That will be next.

what we need to do is push McCain to the right. We can’t just say “ok we did the best we can, let’s just accept him for what he is and get over it because Obama is worse”

We did that with Bush and hastert and we ended up in a fiscal and monetary crisis that the dems will take advantage of.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll be able to change the personality of that 71-year-old curmudgeon. There isn't much hope in trying to teach a dog that old any new tricks.

It's amazing, isn't it? People will bitch and moan about the money we spent in Iraq but never complain about the trillion dollar budget we have.

I see it with the people I work with. They BELIEVE in higher taxes. Well, for rich people and corporations.

Then they complain when the rich take their corporations to China.

Democrats are far worse than any Republican. To blame this on Bush is not fair. Do you really believe Dems are going to control spending more than Rs?

We must put the blame where it belongs--on an ignorant electorate. They didn't want less spending--they want more. That's why they're voting Dim.

Reminds me of when leader Hastert came to Oklahoma and mentioned he thought Coburn would lose the senate race. I felt he tried to affect that race. The people thought differently and voted in huge numbers for Senator Coburn. Mr. Hastert’s leadership during the time it could have made a difference, did us no favors. We will have to endure some pain in the short term, no way around it.

Thank you, migraine. If we surrender to the socialists/Democrats, we deserve what we get. To have any left in this country that will vote Dim is unthinkable.

Any idiot voting Dim must want a destroyed economy, as that is what the Dims will do.

Anyone voting RAT must also LOVE high energy prices and these prices are the direct result of Dims and their radical environmentalist friends who pretend they care about the environment and prevent us from producing our own fuel.

Any idiot who will vote for a Dim must love illegal immigration but we will have lots more.

Any idiot voting for a Dim must not care one twit about their freedom or safety and Dims care far more about protecting our enemies than our country.

Any idiot voting for a Dim must be willing to sacrifice more freedom because Dims want to control and regulate every facet of our lives.

Nope, I don't see how the Dims have a prayer--if the public understand that Dims are their enemy.

The real crime is that Oberweis is a millionaire who could have and should have self-financed.

He probably read FREEPERS and saw how Romney was bashed for doing so. He probably didn’t want to be criticised for being a rich guy. FREEPERS hate self made rich guys like Romney and this guy.

So what do those that think they can sustain a win by voting for the bottom of the ticket think now?

Reminds me of the old poem:

I met a Speaker on the stair
A Speaker who was never there
He wasn't there again today
And now his Seat has gone away.

The beauty is, we get to define them, if they ever get a nominee (or nominatrix)! We will do it on youtube. We will do it on myspace. We will do it with 527's (swiftboat ads). We will do it on FReeper. We will do it on bumper stickers (e.g. "AMERICA-HATERS LOVE (picture of a big red heart) BARAQ". We will not stop, we will not surrender. The time for a Euro-wussie America is not now; the time for a commie-wussie America is not now. I regret to say that it may be LATER, but it is not now, not while you and I are alive. Not here, not now.

You show nice passion, by the way.

you must have missed the bashing that Romney took for spending his own money but he definitely was bashed big time for being a rich guy. That is the truth.

Poster makes my skin crawl. Liberal with a capital “L.”

There is no Republican Party in Illinois.

Through it all, the voters bitch and moan and pull straight Democratic Party. Rinse and repeat.
