Obama Says He Will Not Accept VP Spot
LA Times ^ | 3-8-08 | Andrew Malcom

Campaigning in Casper, Wyo., Friday night for the 12 delegates to come out of Saturday's Democratic county caucuses, Sen. Barack Obama refused the notion of becoming the vice presidential candidate on this fall's party ticket. Obama was asked by a television reporter, "Can you ever see yourself on the same ticket as Sen. Clinton?" And the freshman Illinois senator replied: "Well, you know, I think it’s premature. You won’t see me as a vice presidential candidate -- you know, I’m running for president. We have won twice as many states as Senator Clinton, and have a higher popular vote, and I think we can maintain our delegate count." Many Democrats have long thought of Obama-Clinton or Clinton-Obama as a dream ticket, offering both the first serious female candidate and the first serious African American candidate for the nation's top two political offices. Clinton surprisingly broached the idea Wednesday morning after she won the popular vote in Texas and Ohio to regain some momentum after 11 straight ... losses, though she still lags far behind in pledged delegates. She mentioned the possibility of a joint ticket again Friday morning during a campaign appearance in Mississippi. Last night was the first time Obama commented on the idea. It's political protocol when presidential candidates are asked about the vice presidency to twist the question back around to the top office and avoid a direct answer. But Obama's response last night was unusually direct and dismissive. The 46-year-old candidate is expected to do well in Wyoming today, as he has done in virtually every caucus state.

“He’s lying.”

About being the veep, his real religion, performing oral sex on a guy when he was doing drugs, or all of the above?

I’d comment, but extrapolation on that statement is sick.

Just why should HE settle for # 2? He has more delegates than she does.

Looks like a classic example of the white man trying to keep a brother down!

It would be suicide to take her on as VP. She'd drag him down at the polls, and would get him whacked later if they won.

Well, let’s not rush to judgment. If O’Bambino takes the VP spot, let’s wait for Rush to tell us whether or not we should vote for the Hillarious/Bambino ticket.

You have nailed it!!! Michelle who wants to “scratch Bill’s eyes out” will never let her man be relegated to second fiddle.

Wait until the black community calls the HillBilly’s racist for making a black man take second place. This thing is going to spin out of control real fast!

This is standard Clinton tactics. Bill Clinton said earlier today that a Clinton-Obama ticket would be hard to beat. They are trying to appeal to the super delegates and the voters that you can nominate Hillary and get Obama as a twofer. The only problem is that Hillary is trailing in delegates and the popular vote.

Nice of Hillary to offer Obama the VP spot when she isn’t even going to be the nominee.

I don’t think so. Can you imagine working for Bill and Hill? No one is that stupid.

It’s an upgrade from where he’s at. It also puts him in line for succession.

Why all the buzz about Obama being the VP -— when he is the one who is ahead?

The VP position under Hillary will be the end of anyones political career. He’s smarter than I thought he was.

Think a second how ridiculous this is. Obama has an insurmountable lead in pledged delegates and leads in the popular vote, yet the Clinton camp has the MSM pressuring Obama about accepting the VP slot on the ballot. Why do you think that Hillary and Bill are talking about a joint ticket? LOL

He never said what the headline says. He said it was “premature” blah blah blah.

You bet he’d take it. He may be forced to by the supers as a way out of this mess they’re in.

The irony of it is that, Hillary, dressed in that same dress, minus her fancy designer suits and not holding her ample belly in, would look about like that.

During the last Clinton presidency, 'twas herself who insisted on having the offices usually reserved for the VP. Therefore, if history repeats, Bubba would want those same offices.

Sorry, Obama!
