Bill Clinton: Hillary-Obama Ticket Would Be "Almost Unstoppable Force" By Greg Sargent - March 8, 2008, 3:00PM
Now Bill Clinton is saying it. Here he is, floating the idea of a joint Hillary-Obama ticket at a town-hall meeting today in Mississippi:
"She said yesterday and she said the day after her big wins in Texas and Ohio and Rhode Island that she was very open to that and I think she answered explicitly yes yesterday," Clinton began, referring to Hillary's own answers on the topic in recent days.
"I know that she has always been open to it, because she believes that if you can unite the energy and the new people that hes brought in and the people in these vast swaths of small town and rural America that shes carried overwhelmingly, if you had those two things together she thinks itd be hard to beat. I mean you look at the, you look at the, you look at the map of Texas and the map in Ohio. And the map in Missouri or -- well Arkansass not a good case because they know her and she won every place there.
"But you look at most of these places, he would win the urban areas and the upscale voters, and she wins the traditional rural areas that we lost when President Reagan was president. If you put those two things together, youd have an almost unstoppable force."

Bill Clinton - the ultimate controller. What business is it of his?
Note to Bill: What about an Obama-Clinton ticket?
Remember: A vote for Hillary is a vote to put the Perjured Pervert back into the White House.
An Obama/Clinton ticket? Knives going between decks and blood in the scuppers; they will never cooperate.
IOW, Hillary can’t win on her own!
And they know it!
Obama is intelligent enough to know that Obama-Hillary ticket that's Almost Unstoppable Arancide.
Since the beast can not win no matter what even if she wins big Pennsylvania (go to: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/29/delegate.counter/index.html to find out)
Arcanscide might be the only option to put the monster on top.
Gotta love how the Clintons are, on one hand, trashing Obama (usually with true statements) as unqualified, empty and dishonest, but also think he’s qualified to be at very least Vice President, leaving him a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
And yet the media and Democrats can’t seem to grasp the contradiction.
I also have been predicting a Clinton/Obama ticket forever. The TX win made that even more likely.
That said, the ‘Toons are USING this line for the immediate purpose of trying to peel off some of those voters inclined toward Obama-—by telling them there is no downside to voting for the Beast-—they’ll get Obama anyway!
IOW, they are once again trying to win by selling a two-fer-—this one without the other guy’s assent, but still.
They are telling people it’s okay to vote for Hildy because, in the end, there will be “no losers.” Everybody will get a consolation prize.
Exactly. This is one of her ways of putting pressure on the supers.
Her win in TX and OH gave her the grounds for arguing that only she can win the big states, that Obama is not as electable. So she needs to be at the top of the ticket.
To help the BS go down, she offers to make Obama the consolation prize and the way to take care of turnout.
OTOH, the turnout among those who would vote for someone ONLY b/c of race and ONLY b/c of gender might be large enough to compensate for those who would not vote for one or the other.
At this point, NEITHER Obama or the Beast can win the nomination based only on pledged delegates.
So both have to set up how they are going to plead their case in the smokey back room.
He never ruled out being the Hildy’s VP. Read his words closely.
Absolutely agree.
Clinton’ such a putz. Lose election after election then barley win a couple and now you’re the boss offering jobs? Pleeze!
Obama/?
Tell it to the Texas and Ohio voters who crossed over for them...Oh, never mind, too late, isn’t it? Thank you, “conservative” talk radio hosts.
And the freshman Illinois senator replied: "Well, you know, I think its premature. You wont see me as a vice presidential candidate -- you know, Im running for president. We have won twice as many states as Senator Clinton, and have a higher popular vote, and I think we can maintain our delegate count."
Clinton starts pushing idea of ticket with Obama more seriously
BUT, according to Hillary, Obama is not ready to ‘lead on day one’. I guess if she is on the ticket that changes things (as if she will take a back seat to anyone).
If they were to combine on the ticket Obama would be a fool to be the Presidential candidate and I think Vince Foster would verify that.
Ya Sure. It would be the dumbest thing Obama could ever do. It would question his decision making ability and disqualify him to be president.
Look, a lot of Democrats are terrified that the continuing race between Hillary and Obama will get bloodier and bloodier and end up tearing the Democratic Party apart, in which case neither one will win the general election. There is a desperate desire to resolve the contest one way or another, and then get on with the job of unifying the party.
If Obama had won Ohio and Texas, or even just Texas, the Democratic establishment was prepared to lean on Hillary to concede the race. They had a bunch of superdelegates lined up who were going to endorse Obama and try to put the nomination mathematically out of reach for Hillary.
But Hillary's victories torpedoed that plan. Now she can claim some momentum, and keep her campaign going until at least Pennsylvania and quite possibly right up into the convention. This is the Democrats' worst case scenario.
So what Hillary is telling all these Democrats is: ‘The only way you can stop the fratricide and keep the race from dragging on is to sign on to a unity ticket with me at the head and Obama as the VP. Lean on Obama, and make him see the political reality, and we can all join hands and win the November election.’
‘BUT, if my offer is rejected, then you'll get your worst case scenario. I'll rip Obama apart from now until the convention, so that even if he eventually wins the nomination it will be worthless. And don't even think about a unity ticket with me on the VP end. I'm setting the terms here, and Obama isn't ruthless enough to destroy the party with a counter-ultimatum.’
Of course Obama is publicly rejecting the offer. He has to, or all the superdelegates will immediately grab Hillary's offer and end his chances. But Obama can't publicly make the counter-offer of having Hillary his VP choice. For one thing, he doesn't want her. For another thing, it would look like a me-too response and make him appear weak. He's trying to project the image of having an unbeatable delegate lead, so a compromise offer undercuts that narrative.
But Hillary's offer is hanging out there now, and she'll use it to paint Obama as the obstacle to political peace and unity. Meanwhile she'll keep attacking Obama, and every time she's criticized for her tactics she'll just blame Obama for stubbornly refusing to place the good of the Democratic Party above his own blind ambition.
