One week ago at about this time of day we posted an item here headlined: "Do Texas Republicans plan a surprise for Clinton and Obama?"
It speculated on the possibility of Republican voters in the Lone Star state, faced with an uninteresting, essentially-decided contest between John McCain and Mike Huckabee, crossing over to make mischief in the Democratic primary by voting for Hillary Clinton to prolong the Democrats' damaging intra-party struggle for several more weeks. We'd heard rumors about this and the Dallas Morning News had written about the possibility.
Then, on his Monday broadcast, conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh with his national audience of some 13 million aggressively pushed the idea to his listeners in Texas. Bill O'Reilly, among others, also talked about the possibility on his national radio program, but did not advocate such tactics.
By now, some of you may have heard, that Clinton did pull off....
a popular vote win over Barack Obama in Texas which, combined with her wins in Rhode Island and Ohio, revived her campaign and fundraising and made Pennsylvania's primary on April 22 the newest of many days of decisive decision for Democrats, while McCain clinched his nomination and moved on to begin organizing nationally.
Now, Susan Davis over at the Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire has found evidence among some Democrats of possibly enough GOP hijinks to make a difference in Texas. Only 9% of voters in the Democratic primary there were Republican and Obama, as he has elsewhere, drew more of them than Clinton.

“uninteresting”, ALREADY decided GOP race. Decided by DEMOCRATS crossing over in the early primaries and Google-YouTube debates to influence the GOP results saddling us with McCain.
This was payback and an obvious doublestandard expressed by the LAtrine Times.
Too deep for me. I voted for Huckabee.
“Payback” is a great way to decide one’s vote. NOT.
You made my stomach hurt.
Texas Caucus Results are NON-BINDING on the selected Delgates.
When they get to the state convention, they can vote however they chose to!
Wouldn't it be a stunning historical irony if Clinton, who's worked hard to adhere closer to the all-important general election political center than Obama, won the nomination in August and the election in November, all thanks to this vast right-wing conspiracy that briefly swallowed its hate of her in March to save her bacon in Texas?
Ignoramuses like this LA Times writer are apparently unaware that Texas Republicans had more to decide on than which poverty pimp the Dims selected as their candidate for President:
We were also, in the GOP primaries, selecting the people who are going to run this State.
At present, mind you, there is not a single Dim holding a statewide office in Texas, Dims are in the minority in both houses of the State Legislature, and Dims are in the minority in our Congressional delegation as well.
Put down the crack pipe! She won because of Republicans crossing over. That wouldn’t happen in November! If the Republican canidate wasn’t already decided, she would have lost. If its anything keeping Hillary in will help tear the Democraps apart.
Wouldn’t it be ironic indeed. My vote in TX was for Obama - to put a stake in the beast. Hope this was short-sighted on my part.
Irony be damned:
Where would this country be better off?
With a muslim-sympathizing Marxist economic idiot for President, or a pragmatic if left-leaning "politician?"
Between Hillary and B. Hussein Obama, I'd take Hillary any day.
And I don't think there's a heckuva lot of difference between her and McInsane, either.
Agree, stop blaming Rush.
-Obama is weak in key states like FL and Ohio and some studies say 20% of white dems would quietly vote for McCain
-Hillary staying alive pits the party leadership and november reality against their OWN grassroots. This is ideal for McCain who will run a weak campaign.
I see McCain electorally pulling this off somehow.
Interesting how you bring a “crack pipe”. I defer to your knowledge on that subject.
Is this the same Limbauh who told us she won’t run for Senate in NY. Who won’t win in NY. Who won’t be re-elected. Who won’t run for President. Who won’t be the nominee.
He is the one who should stop abusing drugs (which BTW he has documented history of), and realize, the LAST TIME ANYONE BEAT KLINTONS was for Attorney General race in Arkansas.
He has revived a ‘Monster’ (Sorry Ms. Powers for plagiarism) that GOP doesn’t know how to slay. Obama was close to burying her, but the fat egotistical moron, saved her.
You breathe some fresh air and try to break the trance Limbaugh has put you in.
I know, its like a choice between Moe Larry and Curley. We get a globalist stooge in november regardless.
Why did the Limbaugh effect not also work against Ron Paul’s re-election to his Congressional seat?
My sister-in-law just got in from Dallas and she mentioned that most of her friends - - all of whom are Republicans - - went and voted for Hillary in the rat primary. They did so without having to take their cue from Rush because it was the obvious thing to do. They wanted to do their part to help foist chaos on the rats and keep them clawing each others eyes out for at least another few months.
If everything goes right (for us!) the country could end up with a rat party that is irreparably fractured.
Cheers.
