PGA Bird Killer Charged Tripp Isenhour
CNSI website ^ | march, 2008 | Neil Becker

Posted on 03/08/2008 8:59:48 AM PST by org.whodat

Using absolutely poor judgment and acting un-professionally, PGA tour golfer Tripp Isenhour is about to pay the consequences for his selfish act from last December 12 when, at the Grand Cypress Golf course, he purposely killed a migratory bird. Showing no compassion for the habits of creatures, Isenhour, who was filming a segment for 'Shoot Like A Pro,' apparently got frustrated when the red shouldered hawk began making noises and forcing take after take. In a rage, Isenhour,

"Would you have prefered he pulled out a glock?"

A Glock? It probably would have accidentally discharged and wounded the camera man.

Famous last words, “Come on! What are the odds of THAT happening?”

I kind of think that when you read the story you’ll feel a little silly.

I accept your apology in advance.

He killed it with GOLF BALLS? I thought he “shot “ it. Dumb bird. You would have thought after the first few he would have moved on. One endangered species challenging another endangered species. Too bad the bird just didn’t fly away and died but getting past that I find this kind of funny.

“Not trying to flame you, but another FReeper just pointed out the fact that this man was losing possibly thousands of dollars on this bird’s interference. That to me would mean it is getting in the way of his livelyhood.”

All they had to do was send someone over, to wave their arms and scare the hawk away. Isenhour was showing off, plain and simple, no way to spin it, or justify it. I hope the PGA bans him for life, except to push a lawnmower.

I have a small farm that is surrounded by neighborhood. I sort of have the same problem. Though it is not illegal for me to discharge a firearm, and there is enough space and woodland surrounding my property to “cushion” small caliber rounds like .22 or 9mm. My 20 or so next door neighbors freak out when there is gunfire on my place, and I probably would too if the circumstances were reversed. So, I bought a high powered air rifle for pest control. There are some with higher velocity than .22 or 9mm and THEY MAKE ALMOST NO NOISE! I would also recommend a cross bow or compound bow. I can’t use a compound bow because of severe back trouble. HAPPY HUNTING!

He drove UP TO the bird, it didn’t go away. He returned to his station.

The bird came to within 75 yards of him. And stayed there despite golf balls whizzing by it’s head.

“Sending someone” would have been redundant.

If you read the article it clearly shows that his shot WAS planned. He may not have planned to kill the bird but since he did now he's in deep doo-doo. His punishment won't come from a judge, it's the sponsors that will give his career the death penalty. All in all an amazingly stupid judgement on his part.

Just a guy thing I guess. That BP agent on trial for shooting a rock thrower though...his lawyer ought to take a look at this.

Would the reaction have been the same if he had killed an endangered snake?

I have written a couple of books about birds.

Not a single word of your statement is true.

As for the loud horn....hey, on golfing events I’m in the dark. But I’m thinking couldn’t they have stopped the thing, obtained a loud horn from somewhere, and somehow chased off the hawk? Don’t they have provisions for things that interfere with a game?

You can make fun of me for that question but at least I’m not saying nonsense and fawning it off as truth.

Please do not interpret my non-response to any more comments directed to me as agreement with the commentary. Sometimes, as I have discovered in five years as a prolific commenter on this forum I have learned that some people just like to bait and bait and at times it’s best to state your piece and walk away.

i have stated my piece and will comment no more.

It is a DANG bird! Just a bird.

Au contraire. The angels wept when that sad excuse for humanity performed that heinous act of cruelty.

You won’t get flamed from me, because you are right.

I am as far from an animal rights activist as it gets, but this man is a jerk and an idiot, I don’t care how well he can hit a ball across a course.

That was a seriosu question- what method of removing this bird would you have prefered?

He already drove up to it, shot golf balls by it’s head, and the bird came CLOSER. You don’t go closer to things bigger than you in nature unless you want to test your superiority to it.

Thank you.

I really am sincerely trying to apply common sense to this situation.

Not a single word of your statement is true.

I worked at a freakin’ grocery store for some time. Crows and pigeons do NOT fly away simply from noise and or movement. You have to be on top of them for them to get the hint. I don’t need a book to tell me that. I’ve seen it.
