Honda's Oil Burner Is Nigh: Clean Diesel Coming by 2009

Honda gave word earlier today that the company's first US-bound diesel powerplant will arrive by 2009, likely powering an upcoming Accord model. The company calls its four-cylinder 2.2 i-CTDi "superclean," meaning it'll meet emissions standards by way of a newly developed NOx catalytic converter that engages in a high-tech cleaning process. It absorbs NOx from exhaust gas and converts a portion of it into ammonia, which is also absorbed and used later in a reaction that converts the remaining NOx in the exhaust into nitrogen (N2). That nitrogen is, in turn, converted into grape soda, which is frozen and served to local schoolchildren in the form of popsicles. Yep, we were surprised too.

That’s the “Coolness Hole”. All rice burners will eventually have one because kids under 23 demand them for coolness purposes.

There is a Diesel ping list? We have 10 M-B Bluetec’s in the lot here....zero interest. Price of diesel is 70 cents higher than unleaded in Los Angeles.

Is the better fuel economy beat the usual higher costs of diesel engines and fuel? Although from what I underatand one benefit of diesel engines is their much longer lifespan compared to gasoline engines. Is this still true? I was thinking of buying one of these new diesels and I tend to keep a car for a long time.

Red Badger stikes again! Thanks Red, love the diesel info. Currently drive a ‘99 VW Beetle TDI with WVO conversion.

Still trying to figure out the grape soda thing.

The writer was being sarcastic. Apparently he/she is not into the greenie characteristics of the engine.......

Burn this stuff.....

GreenDiesel offers home and business delivery of SVO & WVO to Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and LA Counties. All of our oil is dewatered using a combination of settling and flash evaporation. The oil is then filtered through pressure vessels and a series of centrifuges (spinning at more than 8000 rpm) to .5 micron, then sent through a 1 micron finish filter.

Recycled WVO is $2.00/gal. Fresh VegOil, when available, is usually around $2.50 gal.

Delivery is free at 100 gal or more.

We can help you set up your own fueling station or deliver a completed system to your home or business. To schedule a delivery or if you just have questions call us at (909) 762-3948.

What’s the point in having an engine that will outlast the rest of the car by many years? I usually get another car when the air conditioning on my old one quits, because the repair would be close to what the car is worth.

Price of diesel is 70 cents higher than unleaded in Los Angeles.

Add 30% to the gasoline price when comparing, because diesel delivers ~30% more energy by volume.

Some more unrequested info-the car in the picture is the European Honda Accord. It is upgraded, rebadged, and sold in the U.S. as the Acura TSX.

As a business owner, I will probably be the first in line to buy the diesel Accords as our business cars. We already love driving the Accord, and it will be better with a diesel and better gas mileage for our road trips.

Yes, because of the high compression, the parts are much stronger.
