Q&A: Barack Obama
"I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ."
Interview by Sarah Pulliam and Ted Olsen | posted 1/23/2008 02:18PM

Barack Obama wants to set the record straight. He is not a Muslim, as recent e-mails falsely claim.

The Democratic presidential candidate is fighting the e-mails that have been widely circulated. Obama has been continually speaking about the role of faith in politics since his Call to Renewal address in June 2006.

In the days before the South Carolina primary, he is driving efforts to speaking with media to emphasize his Christian beliefs. His campaign also sent out a recent mailer portraying the candidate with his head bowed in prayer and says that he will be guided by prayer when he is in office.

The senator from Illinois spoke with Sarah Pulliam and Ted Olsen today about his faith, abortion, and the evangelical vote.

Bush did not call Jesus “his favorite philosopher”.

The question Bush was asked was: “Who had the greatest influence on your life.” Bush’s reply was: “Jesus, because HE changed my life.”

And ..

Religion is NOT Christianity. Religion is doing something “religously” without having to, or needing to, know why.

Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus.

BIG DIFFERENCE between the two!!

...so we don't have to continue to go to the alter {sic} and "seek forgiveness" over and over.

You have the right to choose what you believe.

Thousands of Christians and Jews, for example, ask God's forgiveness for sins against Him. They do not believe that Christ's death on the cross gave them a free pass into heaven no matter what misdemeanors or crimes they may commit. (Yes, even Christians do wrong.)

I suggest you respect the rights of others to relate to God as they choose, and as they believe they should.

In other words .. I have to respect your beliefs but you don’t have to respect mine!

Thanks a lot .. how Christian of you!!

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life - NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT BY ME.

You can believe what you want, but I have chosen to believe the words of Jesus.

When I find a chance, I like to pop these in a post once in awhile..I don't direct link cuz I don't want them to get so many hits that they take it down. (I've not read the entire thread, sorry if it's already posted)

Obama's CHurch's website

THE BLACK VALUE SYSTEM
These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They consist of the following concepts:

And as my dad would say, the definition of being a Christian is being a Child of God. Simple as that. :)

No, you are twisting what I wrote and I suspect it's because you are frustrated that everyone else does not see the "truth" as you do.

What I said is, "You have the right to choose what you believe" and I pointed out that many people hold different beliefs...ones that do not agree with yours. What's the problem? You don't share their convictions either!

Replace your passion for everyone to wake up to what you believe is true. Divert it to praying for others and leave it to God to know his faithful people.

Then if he’s elected it will be fatwa and murtadd unless of course he is really practicing al-taquiya in witch case we’re headed for sharia law by executive order.

People can hold all the different beliefs they want .. but that doesn’t make them all the truth.

The truth, as Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except by me”.

If you or anybody you know doesn’t believe that statement .. it’s fine with me. But the truth is still the truth .. and just because some people don’t believe it .. it doesn’t make it any less the truth!

I have “chosen” to believe God .. it’s that simple.

All right. I hear you. You and those who believe as you do know the truth. Everyone else on earth who thinks differently is deluded according to you.

Another truth is: You are not as Christian as you like to believe. For one, you lack tolerance. Secondly, you are not always truthful. Also, Christianity IS a religion.

For heaven's sake, if people are not committing crimes, let it go!

I believe if you read the whole original article on Christianity Today, on which this thread is based, there are pretty much those exact words out of Obama’s mouth.

Well .. Jesus is the one who said, “I am the truth”.

Are you arguing with Him ..??

You need to read Matthew 23:13 - Jesus said to the Pharisees, “You hypicrites”. Hmmmm ..?? not much tolerance there either. And then in Matthew 24:33, Jesus said, “You are snakes, a family of snakes. How are you going to escape God’s judgment”. Not much tolerance there either.

BUT IT’S STILL THE TRUTH!! The truth is sweet and simple - the truth can be hard to say, hard to understand, and hard to believe .. but it’s still the truth.

Christianity is NOT a religion. Cathicism is a religion - and among many Catholics there are a few Christians.

Christianity .. is a personal relationship with Jesus - whereby you have received Him as your personal Savior and Lord. You can find Christianity in most religions. Christianity is what their religion is based upon - like Methodist, Baptist, etc.

I’ll never let the truth go. It’s the truth or it’s not - In Deut. 28-29 God laid out for man the “blessing” and the “cursing” - then God said, “NOW - YOU CHOOSE”.

For Heaven’s sake - read your Bible - you might learn something about God and what HE thinks!
