I regularily get within 20 feet of them, often closer. Red Shoulders are the most trusting of the raptors.

I hope the PGA cans this worthless creep forever.

I’ve had them come within 20 feet of me plenty of times, but not once that I can recall have I been able to approach them closer than about 150 feet, particularly with anything that has a lense. (I usually have an instrument sitting on a tripod in plain sight, but if I raise the scope toward them, they’re usually airborne by the time that I get my eye to the eyepiece.)
