While his accountant investigates what happened, DFL Senate candidate Al Franken will pay a $25,000 penalty he owes New York state for failing to carry workers' compensation insurance for nearly three years for people who worked for his personal corporation.
"We decided to make the payment and the accountant can deal with the files," which promises to be a complicated and detailed process, said Jess McIntosh, a spokeswoman for the Franken campaign.
If it turns out that the New York Workers' Compensation Board was in error, Franken's corporation -- Alan Franken Inc. -- would likely receive a rebate on the penalty, she said. State officials assured Franken's accountant Wednesday that they weren't surrendering their rights by paying the fine now.
Franken, a comedian and author, and his wife, Franni, set up Alan Franken Inc. in New York in 1991 to handle fees and residuals for his services. The Frankens moved from Manhattan to a townhouse in Minneapolis in late 2005 and moved the corporation to Minnesota with them.

Is this buffoon still running for the senate? Is any other RAT running against him in the primary?
I guess he came up short.......
I wonder who paid the fine for him? Maybe he “borrowed” the money from his campaign fund.
“I wonder who paid the fine for him?”
I’ll go with his pal, “conservative” Ben Stein.
Another liberal democrat named Mike Cerisi. He made about a third of a billion in fees suing the tobacco companies.
Well, he’ll fit right in with the other Dhimmicrats in Congress.
Just another day in the corrupt life of a liberal sleeze bag!
He's Al Franken.
And he's still not funny.
Recent polls indicate if the election were held today he'd be Minnesota's next boneheaded Democrat senator.
Here’s Al:
Funny. I thought all those goodies for the little guy were just sort of automatically paid by the great big happy trust fund in the sky. You mean someone actually has to pay the money? Can’t we get the rich to pay it? What? I am the rich? Can’t we get the poor and stupid to pay it, then?
One of his buds just wrote a check from the local Boys and Girls Club to cover it.
I would buy the Red Star if they they gave this kind of 2-sided reporting on stories related to our pubbies.
liberal “do as I say, not as I do”,
He sure picked a good week to owe money in NY state.

“Franken said ‘’I’m a corporation, I employ a bunch of people.’’ Franken also said ‘’I love corporations that play by the rules, and we have to make them play by the rules.”

“In the 1980s... Mike Ciresi... was serving as general counsel to the government of India in a landmark lawsuit over a catastrophic industrial accident... A decade later... Ciresi was leading the state of Minnesota’s lawsuit against Big Tobacco, winning a $6 billion settlement... the multimillionaire trial lawyer is delivering a simple argument to Democratic regulars: He is more electable than Franken. ‘’Al Franken has made a living calling people names,’’ Ciresi said in an interview.”
