Unfortunately, my wife knows of many women whose husbands EXPECTED them to go back to work after having babies. In my opinion, those are not real men.

That's where financial planning comes in. Most households need dual income and has for many years now but if that household plans for a baby that family needs to have enough stashed away or the dad needs to work extra for at least 2-3 years until the baby can handle pre-school or a learning daycare. I took an extra night job for 4 years until my wife went back to work and then she made enough money and I quit my day job but kept the night job so I can be a part of my now 9yo son's life and that's where we stand now. I wouldn't trade my night job for anything.
