I don’t see that anyone has mentioned it—maybe it is mentioned in one of the articles linked—but today is the anniversary of the Greenwich Village self-immolation of the four Weather Underground terrorists who were assembling a bomb to detonate at a noncommissioned officers dance at Ft. Dix, NJ, in 1970.

This bears many of the hallmarks of a Weather Underground bombing. I don’t think this was an act of impulsive “youts.” I think at least one SDS veteran will be found to have been involved.

IIRC, the bomb was supposed to be planted in the library at Columbia University according to (then NYC Chief of Detectives) Al Seedman’s biography, “Chief.” They were trying to distill the dynamite and concentrate it when it exploded.
