Group that seized 2 Austrian tourists in Tunisia extends deadline
Published: 03.17.08, 00:55 / Israel News

Hostage-takers who seized two Austrian tourists last month in Tunisia have extended a deadline for their demands to be met, Austria’s Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

Austrian authorities received a message “making more time available for efforts to secure the release of Wolfgang Ebner and Andrea Kloiber,” said ministry spokesman Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal. (AP)

Rules covering chemical trains questioned

The U.S. government's new anti-terrorism rules to keep chemical-laden trains out of big cities may not be enough for large population areas, critics say.

Members of Congress and security experts find fault with the plan that goes into effect this spring. It leaves it up to railroad companies to decide the best route around the nation's 60 largest cities for cars loaded with such chemicals as chlorine and ammonia.

Critics contend that the rail lines won't actually reroute the trains because it's too expensive.

Machete attackers not part of infamous gang

Investigators at the scene initially said the attack was related to the MS-13 gang, an international gang under investigation by the FBI. But Police Commissioner Ed Davis said the two are not members of that gang.

“It’s not the MS-13 we hear about nationally,” Davis told the Herald. “It’s more a local group.”
