But I, like many others still here, miss the contact, and the comments of many good friends we'd made over the years, and I know (from my contacts with them) they they also have missed FR.
So, is there a way that we can start anew?
Wait a minute! I’m a Rudy supporter and I nev.......... (silence)
hahahaha....
I thought they started GOPRhino or some site like that.
We already have enough pro- McCain liberal apologists. You really want those RINOs back? Why?
I signed up the night those people were banned. They weren’t banned because they supported Rudy Giuliani - plenty of people survived the bannings. They were banned because they were saying ugly things about Ronald Reagan, because they were saying abortion wasn’t an important issue, because they were accusing people who thought Giuliani was a poor choice of wanting Democrats to win.
I think time has proven just the opposite - that support for Rudy was a road to nowhere. A losing proposition, and that these people were supporting him just for the sheer joy of supporting a liberal while still pretending to be Republican(ish).
The banning, at the time, showed me that FreeRepublic was going to clamp down on the liberals in our midst. Make a real stand for conservative values. This is not a Republican site, it’s a conservative site. I applauded those bannings. Even McCain is far, far, far to the right of Rudy Giuliani. Supporting Rudy was unacceptable for anyone with any pretense of conservatism.
I always planned to leave FreeRepublic once Giuliani was flushed, but the threat of the Obama campaign is what motivates me now. And I see no reason why Rudy supporters wouldn’t flock to the Obama camp. After all - their motivation was that only Rudy could beat Hillary. But can’t Obama also beat Hillary? If they don’t mind abortion, and don’t mind loose morals, and don’t mind liberal social policies, why wouldn’t they support Obama instead of McCain just as they supported Rudy over him?
I don’t want McCain. I can’t believe the worst guy after Ron Paul is the nominee.
First let me say I was banned once and am very greatful that I was allowed to return. I would also like to say that I hope at least a few of the banned never return. I have enjoyed their absence, and the relative peace. I do not vote for blanket amnesty- if it is in order at least make it case by case.
I hold some views against the main tenets, but I still must humbly, respectfully, observe that those former FReepers were not booted for the views they held. They are not here now because of the discordant way they expressed their opinion.
another open minded group.....
I have no problem if they want to come back. Not sure why they would though, after all, they’re liberals—so what’s the point? Why would liberals want to hang out on a conservative forum. Makes no sense. If they’ve repented of their evil ways then let’s welcome back into the fold.
They are gone to somewhere in the blogosphere. Learn to make new friends. Life is short.
Yeah, I say let’s ban the clueless Limbomaniac sheep who voted for the Beast yesterday.
I’m joining this thread late and haven’t read the whole thing yet but right off, many if not most of those “banned freepers” were already reinstated long ago even if they didn’t know it. Howlin, for example, was reinstated months ago.
I've always been against banning posters just because they're Rudy lovers. So long as they kept their views to themselves and didn't support him publicly, I had no quarrel with them. It's sort of like homosexuals in the military, Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Nonsense. There are/were plenty of vocal Rudy supporters around here who didn’t get banned, so obviously other factors were involved.
Russell Kirk dealt with this issue on his lecture on the 10 characteristics of a conservative. You can find this on FR HERE.
Kirk's The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Elliot began, as much as anything else, the modern conservative movement.
For example, Kirk believed you were a conservative if you believed you were a conservative. Conservatism was self-defined. Being a conservative did not imply a fixed ideology. And so on.
IMHO it is a needless effort to try to ban everyone who disagrees with your version of conservatism. Any successful endeavor tries to expand its base rather than restrict it.
Hunter, Thompson, Giuliani, Romney and Paul failed to convince the voters they were the one. Like it or not McCain was selected. Whimpering, whining and excuse making will not change that. You either play on the team or not.
You cannot ban the truth. It always outs falsehood. It may take time, but eventually the truth prevails. While we decry "political correctness," we often slip into the same error with "conservative correctness." If we do so, we confess that our own uncertainty of convictions requires a banning of those who differ.
Great thread.
Glad someone finally had the gnads to do so.
I think some have to pull the pickle put of their butt and reliaze that all conservatived are good folk.
Kudos to you.

Doesn’t bother me...as long as nopardons or howlin stays away.
Funny thing is, here or over at their antifreepr site, they still dont do much science.
