Their investigative reporter went to the neighborhood where Michelle grew up, saw her childhood home and interviewed her childhood friends. The bottom line: the family was comfortably middle class. Her father did work as a custodian at one time, but he was active in RAT politics and as a result got a plum job with the water utility that paid 45K a year. That was no small sum in the 70s.
Reminds me of John Edwards and his mill worker father ... and the way he always forgets to mention that by the time he was two years old they no longer lived in the tiny two room house and his father climbed the ranks into management.

Full o’ something. There are plenty of “good schools” where they would not indoctrinate her as she has apparently done been. Look at her! She is the epitomy of success and what is she doing? Condescending to the little folk. They didn’t have to attend those over priced elite institutions, so she should shut up about the cost. But then, what else does she have to try and relate to those poor folk. I wish there were more photos of Obama’s real heritage, the white people who raised him most of his life. He is just as white as he is black. Do you suppose he could be a racist?

Not defending this idiot woman’s point of view, but this factoid alone would have to be taken into account at some point. I think 50 years hence we certainly might. They’ll talk about us like we used to talk about the Spartans, only the bit about the poor Spartans had no basis in fact. The Spartans didn’t throw their undesirable children off of cliffs. The irony is this idiot thinks abortion is simply a lifestyle choice.
You’d also have to take into account that we’ve given more lives defending the freedom of so many people (58MM free since we declared our independence).
If you chose to only consider the good we’ve done, but only for those that managed to escape their mother’s labias, her statement is absurd. I won’t mention that we are more philanthropic than the next 15 countries combined - not counting direct US Government largesse or military support.

Well, boo frickin hoo! My parents immigrated here with me when I was 5, with nothing. They put 4 kids thru college, & we’re all makin it work. No trust fund, nothing. We have what we put away.

If you have no appreciation for this country, get out. I would have never had the opportunities if my parents hadn’t come here from eastern europe.
America may have its issues, but if you work hard, its the best place there is.
Frankly, I wonder why Mrs. Obama would agree to this sort of an interview. Was she set-up by friends of Bill and Hill to do this interview? Just curious.
Barack should really have a heart to heart with his wife about these sorts of statements if he wants to win the nomination and national election. But, one thing I will say, no matter how much we want to believe that racism is gone from the American conscious, it sadly is not, IMHO. Perhaps, she is speaking from a black perspective, we should at least give her that in examining her statements.
Anyway, Bill Clinton said a lot of stupid stuff, like pseudo remembering when black churches were burned where he grew up, well it never happened. He said stuff that made America look like a loser nation and he gets elected to the office of the president and then proceeded to shame himself. Now he's making millions every time he opens his mouth and desperately wants back in through his inexperienced smash-mouthing wife.
And the 'Rats are EXACTLY the ones who MAKE SURE the US STAYS that way.
