Did Republican crossovers keep Hillary alive?

Posted on 03/05/2008 8:55:14 AM PST by reaganator

The total of McCain and Huckleby votes in Ohio yesterday were approximately 955,000.

The total of Obama and Clinton votes in Ohio yesterday were approximately 2,150,000.

Clinton won by approximately only 227,000 votes.

Where were the Republicans? Did at least 227,000 Republicans crossover yesterday and vote for Hillary?

In Texas, Clinton won by approximately only 98,000 votes. There in Texas there was also a much smaller number of Republicans voting for McCain and Huckleby. It's sure very reasonable to think that at least 98,000 Republicans crossed over in Texas.

Did the Republican voters keep Hillary in the race?

that is crap. No way 100,000 republicans switched to vote for hill in texas. Some crossovers i am sure voted for obama as they have in other states to stop Hill.
The democrat turnout over the course of the primaries has been way way way way higher than republican turn out.
I would love to find out exactly how many republicans did cross over in Texas.

Perhaps by your definition...but clearly not by theirs.

You have your opinion on the best way to defeat the dems, they clearly had theirs.

I personally would love to see Hillary and Obama rip their figurative throats out in the run up to their convention. Hillary has shown that by attacking Obama she can make up ground so I expect that tactic to continue.

“Crossover” is a noun.

The question is, Did Republicans cross over?

My best friend in Texas gulped and did as Rush suggested. She walked to the Democrat table and stated she wanted to vote for Hillary. A, very nice, black couple was working the table and handing out ballots. After she voted she noticed the couple was encouraging the Democrats around her to come back at 7:15 for the caucus. They were Obama voters. My friend was not asked to come back.

My guess is Obama will win the Texas caucuses.

It is all proceeding according to our design. The only way Hillary can win is to put Michigan and Florida back into play, and even after that only with Super Delegate dirty tricks and backroom deals. This scenario would produce a nomination which would alienate half her party and lead to a Republican landslide in November, and possible the Senate as well.

I have a new term for this tactic, if I may be so bold:

Vote-egery.

Looks like Hillary is more beatable.

You have to keep in mind that maybe 20 million more dead people would vote for hillary than Obama. She's been building her machine for a much longer time.

Obama is potentially a far worse candidate.

Conjecture, pure conjecture. On the other hand, we know well the criminality to expect from the Witch and the partner.

Rather be a fool than a full blown idiot that doesn’t see the stategic brilliance of keeping her in the race! This is a slow bleed campaign by keeping her in. More and more resources have to be burned to get the nomination, depleating coffers. McCain was a lock, so I crossed over to keep her in the race. The longer it drags out, the more the DNC will tear themselves apart! Obama is the one to really worry about. Charism can win elections over substance! (see JFK vs. Nixon, Carter vs. Ford & Clinton vs Bush & Dole) Keeping her in is like throwing a porkchop in the middle of a pitbull fight. Just makes it that much more vicious! And if it get brokered, it will be out and out civil war!

A Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket will motivate me to stand on street corners holding a Nader sign. Nothing else will motivate me to be significantly involved.

If they did, they were stupid for doing so

Yep, careful what you wish for. It would have been better for obama to wrap it up and then let the wheels come off after he is the duly chosen candidate. The specter of resko, nafta and all the rest to come bringing down the candidate of choice after it was too late for the dims to regroup would have been much better. We are only closer to a hillary presidency now.

It would have been soooo much better to just hand to Obama victory NOW so he can spend the next 7 months firing away nonstop at McCain and being worshiped nonstop by the media for "making history"

During this time, McCain would be out of cash and therefore unable to respond to these attacks. Sound familiar?
(Hint: think Dole 1996)

Not entirely conjecture.

Given the choice between 4-8 more years of Arkancide and petty theft vs subjecting the U.S. to the U.N., I'll take Arkancide.

These were not winner take all primaries. I doubt the crossover votes swung the delegate counts more than a handful in either direction. I bet there was also a number that crossed over and voted for Obama, against Hillary.

Obama leads Hillary by about 100 delegates.

It's possible that Republicans gave Hillary enough votes to get a symbolic victory in Texas, and less likely but possible in Ohio.

Hillary's great victory yesterday shrunk Obama's lead by about 15 delegates. There are still roughly 1000 delegates up for grabs. Hillary would need to get 60% of them to win. That's possible, but I think it's doubtful, especially since it seems like the media has turned against her.

Were there no state or congressional races in which you could have voted for the more conservative candidate? What about local issues?

Just because the presidential primary wasn't worth voting in doesn't mean you should stay home.

Exactly. Blacks will be pissed at Hitlery for “stealing” the nomination and stay home.

I voted in New Jersey this year. Just one lever to pull. I pulled Romney's though I don't like him and I knew my anti-McCain gesture was futile.

Nothing else there on the machine. Took me about 1.4 seconds and it was still a huge waste of time.

Not at the risk of keeping a Clinton family member in the political scene today. We need to get rid of them ASAP. They destroy everything in which they are involved. We need to cleanse the coutnry of their presence.

That's what we'll do in November. Have to admit, though, I'm going to really have to work up support for McCain...as in, faking it. Only excited because we're fighting against Mrs. William J. Clinton.
