Clinton: ‘Be careful what you wish for, Rush’ By Klaus Marre Posted: 03/05/08 09:30 AM [ET]

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), buoyed by important victories in the Democratic primaries in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, on Wednesday offered some words of warning to conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, who had urged Republicans to vote for her as the presumptively easier Democrat to beat.

“Be careful what you wish for, Rush,” Clinton said on Fox News.

For the second time during this campaign season, the former first lady survived what many viewed as a potential knockout punch from frontrunning Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). While Obama maintains a significant delegate lead, he was unable to seal the nominations Tuesday night, having to concede another two populous states to Clinton.

“By getting the most delegates, by having won twice as many states, by having a lead in the popular vote we feel as if we are on pace to get the nomination,” Obama said Wednesday morning in an appearance on the same network. “And it will take a little longer than would be true if we weren’t running against a Clinton, but we’re still going to end up getting it.”

However, instead of being able to focus on Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the newly crowned Republican nominee, Obama must now continue to expend his considerable resources on the Democratic primary.

The Clinton campaign is seeking to use the breathing room the former first lady was given in polling places in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island to map out its “path to the presidency,” as a memo from strategists Harold Ickes and Mark Penn was labeled.

In the document, the Clinton team says it is “time for a second look” on the race and the candidates and argued that the “momentum has swung

Rush has made a career off Hilary. It would be a disaster for him if she ever faded from the political scene.

Yeah...'cause, like, Hillary's the only neo-socialist liberal wingnut in America, y'know? </sarc>

Don’t underestimate the intensity of hatred for Hillary. And it doesn’t just come from Republicans! I’m still out on who would be easier to beat, I go back and forth. It’s hard to judge: unlikability vs. inexperience.

I believe Rush was urging Tejas Repubs to “pimp themselves out for a day” vote for the Hildebeest in the Primary so that she and the Obama-noids could continue to do battle up to the Convention.

With that goal in mind, I’d say Rush’s plan worked...

I disagree. Hillary is an incredibly polarizing politician. People either love her or hate her. There's very little in the way of middle ground about her. And many more Democrats hate Hillary than they dislike Obama. If it were a Hillary vs. McCain contest, I think McCain would win easily.

On the other hand, if Obama runs against McCain, the race will be reduced to a younger, charismatic liberal vesus an angry, old coot liberal. And the fawning media coverage would all but assure a replay of the 1960 JFK vs. Nixon contest.

Agree completely.

Republicans voting for Hillary Clinton, and those urging them to do so, are very foolish. Barak Obama, as we see, is very fragile, and would be the easier candidate to beat. Clinton, OTOH, is ruthless and resilient, and will be harder to beat. What is more, a deadlocked Democratic convention creates the possibility of a compromise candidate, whose chances of winning we cannot calculate, or a Clinton/Obama ticket that would be formidable.

It would have been better if Hillary Clinton was stopped here, once and for all.

I voted for Ross Perot ..... twice..... and Limbaugh (God bless him) has continuously blamed voters like me for the election of Bill Clinton

Limbaugh endorsed Hillary in the Primaries..... so if Hillary wins the November election, Limbaugh will be to blame.

NICE GOING RUSH.....WE ARE DOOMED!!!!!

I don’t think she can catch him anyway. Rove on Fox this morning said she has to win 53% average of all remaining delegates.

I think it is closer to 55%.

Rush and Hillary are on the same side. She appoints the lesbian supreme court justices and he rants and raves and increases his market share.

If Hillary were to somehow win, she would so polarize her own party it would be fractured. Only Obama can actually unite the party. He most likely gets the nomination. However, he will be very bloodied and will not have had a chance to put his energy and resources against McCain.

How can any of this be bad? The only bad thing I can see for McCain right now is that he will be out of the spotlight for a while. These two will take center stage in a winner take all cage match. So what’s better, getting little to no coverage or getting coverage of your tax records, or land deals with Rezko? With the mud that is set to fly, it’s better not to have coverage. He’ll be able to appear presidential and above the fray.

I think Hillary would be the preferred candidate for the GOP because she’s a known quantity and has all the charm of a rockfish. Also, she’ll be a huge drag on dems running in state and local elections.

Don't worry, the Hillary supporters and useful idiots here have an answer for that. They will sabotage McCain at the end before she is about to beat him so that they can show just how "weak" he was and how he would have lost to Obama and they had the proper stratergy all along.

The only thing Rush wishes for is better ratings and more money to spend on his lavish lifestyle.

That is probably the truth!

Having the VRWC in support of H! is ironic, but dangerous for the VRWC.

Fox news got 800 emails this morning on Fox and Friends who said they crossed over from McCain to vote for Hillary.

Carl Rove said some of his (R) acquaintances/friends called him last evening and told him they voted for Clinton.
