U.S. forces found, targeted and killed in a Somali desert city the senior al Qaeda operative who masterminded the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa and had since spent a decade in hiding, The Washington Times has learned.

Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, who is one of the FBI's most-wanted terrorists, was the target of a U.S. missile strike on a residence in Dobley, a small town in southern Somalia near the Kenyan border, according to a U.S. military official who spoke to The Times on the condition of anonymity because of the nature of the operation.

Horrors, how dare we kill the POS! /s

Let’s recall that the Clintonista policies would have required that we could only try to capture (never kill) this guy, entailing unnecessary risks for our side, a likely firefight, and far lower chances of ending up with such a satisfactory ‘resolution’ of the case........ also, if we had captured this mass murdering POS we would have been required to support him in love and comfort for the rest of his days, unless another liberal President pardoned him first....

I think it also has a lot to do with developing HUMINT all over the world. That takes time.

We got this one but “missed” out on Mughniyeh in Syria. In fact the USA had nothing to do with that hit.

On the contrary, we finally positively located Mughniyeh and a few days earlier sent in an eight person team to extract him alive. Unfortunately Hezbollah made them at Beirut Airport.

The Hezzies passed this information to Islamic Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who feared the intel that Mughniyeh could provide, specially about Iran’s subversive activities in Lebanon and Hezbollah plans, so they took Mughniyeh out.

We nearly got him - alive. The Iranians/Hezbollah were the hit men.

It may have been the extraction team arriving with insufficient cover in Beirut that blew it but at least one of the enemy involved with the 9-11 attack in New York, is no longer in good health!

All our agencies have been trying to get a positive ID and get Mughniyeh for years and years, so the need for speed may well have meant a less than sufficient “cloak” for the team.

Without all the frills attached, there is a common cause.

Aidid died a long time ago, of mysterious circumstances, presumably of a heart attack, but who knows?
