Rove a big draw with youth By Salena Zito TRIBUNE-REVIEW Monday, March 3, 2008
Karl Rove suspects some members of the sold-out crowd coming to see him tonight at the University of Pittsburgh might only be interested in seeing if he has horns and a tail. "I always get the occasional lunatic ranting and raving, but most people want to hear what I have to say and want to ask questions," the former deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to President George W. Bush said Sunday. "That is when we get engaged in a dialogue about things they want to know about, like the war, terrorist surveillance, tax cuts and the future of our economy."
Students quickly snapped up the 500 available tickets to Rove's appearance, part of professor Gordon Mitchell's course on Cold War rhetoric. Some of the hype is because of Rove's "larger than life" reputation as the mastermind behind the Bush presidency, Mitchell said.
The sold-out crowd shows a level of excitement among younger voters this election year that is most visible at rallies for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, but which crosses party lines, political organizers said.

Mr Rove, that ranting and raving by lunatics is what is considered the normal and stable Democratic voter base.
As always, the media hails the “youth vote” even though they never show up in November.

Besides bringing lawsuits and crying for the abolishment of the electoral college, that’s what Dems do when they lose elections fair and square.

Kori bustard
They're showing up in droves in the primaries. You think it'll be any different if 'bamalamadingdong is their savior, err nominee?
Is that the type of bustard that only eats custard with sauce made of mustard?
Yeah and then it’s feathers lose their luster.
Everyone assumes that the youth vote will go to Obama but, there’s a lot more sensible young people (18-29)out there than we’re giving credit.
I’d say Obama would get 60/40 advantage over McCain in this age group. Between McCain and Hillary; McCain 60/40 advantage.
Somebody weigh in on this please.
My 18 year-old son voted in his very first election today . . . He and 10 of his friends (girls and guys) went to the polls together and ALL voted Republican . . . Of their classmates who supported Obama or Hillary, only two actually planned to vote (and who knows if they actually will)!
This seems to comport with the typical behavior of my university students (personal vs normative data). The ones who are willing to admit that they plan to vote Republican tend to do so 90% of the time; conversely, those who ‘plan’ to vote Democrat only do so 20-30% of the time!
Yeah and then its feathers lose their luster.
But it never gets flustered....
I volunteer for the County Board of Elections to take absentee ballots to nursing homes. We let four people into the conference room at one time so they are sitting apart, and let them fill out their ballots. We election officials silently know a person's party affiliation by their Voter Registration cards. It's always the Democrats who loudly announce who they're voting for, while the Republicans remain silent.

I disagree. Because McLame is such an avid support of the Iraq War, he is, as young people would say, a “buzzkill” for that age group. Young people are also influenced by charm; not the first thing that comes to mind with the likely GOP candidate.
That seems a more plausible explanation for the rush for tickets. Other than Jorge Bush, there's no one else who still thinks he's a political genius.
Obama asked a campaign lawyer if he could join the Republican Party now that he has 1,193 delegates which is two more than necessary to become the Republican nominee. /humor off
this is the same as rock the vote, vote or die...etc, etc.
The group voting today will have to wait eight long months to vote again. How many American Idols can be crowned in eight long months?
No offense meant to any of the younger generation here, but the average attention span of today’s youth is that of a gnat.
McCain beats either of them in November.
BTW, I can’t take credit for the bustard/custard/mustard thing: I borrowed it from Dr. Seuss’s “If I Ran the Zoo” (which, in addition to the blustard, also mentioned a bird called the flustard that only ate mustard with sauce made of custard). Didn’t mean to “pull an Obama” there.
LOL
that is totally uncalled for.
