Snow disaster leaves 1.6 mln people frostbitten in NW China province

Severe snow disasters have left 1.65 million people snowblind and frostbitten, 500,000 livestock and wildlife dead and 3.1 million others on verge of starvation in Tibetan prefectures of northwestern Qinghai Province.

Since October last year, consecutive low temperature had gripped the province. The temperature plunged to minus 36.3 degrees centigrade, the record lowest in January in the province, said the provincial meteorological bureau.

In Yushu, Guoluo and Huangnan Tibet Autonomous Prefectures, most of the grassland was covered by snow, usually 16 to 32 cm thick, which had brought great losses to local animal husbandry.

In the disaster-stricken prefectures, 130,000 people had run out of fuels, 350,000 people in need of food and 110,000 others short of warm clothes or quilts, said the provincial government.

Currently, the province's task was to evacuate 11,000 people of 2,000 herdsmen households for the local conditions were not fit to live any longer.

Qinghai has allocated 16.85 million yuan for disaster relief but still in shortage of 134 million yuan.

Winter storms have also plagued southern China since mid-January, leading to widespread traffic jams, structural collapses, blackouts and crop losses in 19 provinces, leaving 129 people dead and causing 151.65 billion yuan of losses, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Global Cooling is the real problem. The MSM should be ashamed it is not reporting on such a human tragedy.

How very sad. A great deal was made of the snowstorms paralyzing the railstations at the time of Chinese NEw YEar but not a word about the Tibetan region. How utterly sad. No Tsunami-like fundraising efforts underway, either.

That is stunning! How many are dead? Chinese propaganda means you can take that number and multiply it by 10.Anything issued by the PRC is filtered through censors, we even have some defenders of the PRC on these boards. That is a stunning number for the inscrutable Chinese to even admit. How many will they tell us have died when the 3 Gorges Dam abomination collapses?

Having lived most of my life in a very cold climate; I know that global cooling would be much more disastrous than global warming. Most people live in warm to hot climates — therefore, it’s understandable that they’re inclined to believe that a bit more heat would be a problem.

Even the worst-case scenarios of Algore and his ilk don’t come close to the disaster that would follow just a few degrees of global cooling. During the last ice age, most of Canada, Alaska, and Europe was covered with a mile-thick ice sheet. Ice ages are the norm — the interglacial ages are brief respites. Perhaps this disaster in China will serve as a reminder.

Walmart is taking care of that, one Chinese toxic toy or food item at a time. Let the compassionate government of the PRC take care of it. Mao and his followers love this, it helps them to “thin” the herd. Life is cheap in China, for the elites that is.
However there are plenty of accounts of Maoist and Nationalist soldiers(In the Japanese and WW2 era)) laying wounded in the field, and peasants plowing the springs crops around their dying bodies. No water, food or bandages. Ho hum, life goes on. Checkmate Mandarin.

Marco Polo described Long Pork being sold in the Markets of Cathay(China). It was highly valued. Long pork is the flesh of condemned prisoners.

The real story is, what has happened to these people that they have forgotten how to survive in their own country?

Also, I would not expect China to do much much in the Tibet region, Tibetans have long voiced concerns that China is attempting to eradicate their culture and people in Tibet. They have flooded the area, intermarried with the local women and suppressed the culture.

Good question. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the answer was "Government control of fuel prices to defeat evil price gougers" - only in Mandarin rather than English.

These conditions occur every year in Canada and people there live a pretty good life.
