March 2 (Bloomberg) -- Florida Governor Charlie Crist said he'd support a repeat of the Democratic presidential primary so the state's delegates can be counted at the party's national convention.
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said he's open to the possibility. Primary elections are paid for by a state's taxpayers, so the offer from Crist, a Republican, is ``very helpful'' because money is an issue, Dean said.
``We're very willing to listen to the people of Florida,'' Dean said on CNN's ``Late Edition'' program today.
The Democratic Party stripped Michigan and Florida of their delegates to the convention as punishment for holding votes before the sanctioned date of Feb. 5. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, head of the Democratic National Convention, said last month that delegates from those states shouldn't decide the nomination.
New York Senator Clinton beat Illinois Senator Barack Obama in the Florida contest Jan. 29, though neither campaigned there in accordance with the party's decision. Clinton won in Michigan after her rivals withdrew from the ballot.
Clinton said Jan. 25 that delegates from Florida and Michigan should be seated at the Democratic National Convention in August.
Dean said the dispute over seating delegates is the fault party leaders, not Florida voters.
``If they would like to fix that problem so that we can seat Florida without any problems, of course we would like to seat Florida,'' he said.
Crist said, ``I think it's very important though that those delegates are seated.
``I'm hopeful that the Democratic National Committee comes to the conclusion it's the right thing to do,'' he said on CNN today.
Only if we can redo the Republican one also. So many Democrats found a way to corrupt the Republican results because they had no meaningful place to vote on their side.
“I’m hopeful that the Democratic National Committee comes to the conclusion it’s the right thing to do,’’ he said on CNN today.”
Once again Democrats cause the problem and have the taxpayer pay for it. If Florida is so important, let the DNC pay for it out of Clinton’s and Obama’s donations.
I am so sick and tired of their never being ANYTHING that anyone can accept anymore. They knew what the penalty would be and chose to go along with it anyway. Why should they have their do-over at taxpayer’s expense?
Good ol’ Charlie Crist. If you want to see what’s wrong with the Republican Party of today he’s the perfect place to start looking.
ONE QUESTION...has a Primary ever been re-done? If so, when and who. I tried to Google it but couldn’t find anything.
Someone wants to be VP.
Worked in 2000 ... oh, waitaminute...
Charlie Crist (D-Florida) errr (R-Florida) jumping into the fray. And, we elected him!
Oh boy. I can see the lawsuits flying already, and not just on the Democrat side. The Republicans would have a legit beef that the earlier primary let Democrats cross over to vote on the R side, and a do-over would let those same Democrats now go vote on the D side as well. That would certainly seem to violate the concept of “one man one vote”.
Perhaps they should charge $100 (or whatever the cost would break down to) to each person who shows up to cast a vote.
Dead men vote twice too.
DO OVER!!!! ugh.
Governor Crist: the man who vowed neutrality in the Republican primary, encouraged his (Romney supporting) underlings to do the same, then at the last minute endorsed McCain.
But but, once is not enough! Can’t blame a RINO for trying to protract their primary process though.
I’m no Rudy fan by any means, but this “Gov. Crist” really screwed him over with the endorsement, that’s all I heard about out here on the Left Coast.
No we want a Dim rerun to humimliate Clinton when she loses. The GOP nomination is done. The effect of the narrow McCain win can not be undone. No sense causing ourselves problems.
We have at least 3 gay R Senators. We don’t any more gay R Govs.
Actually I think this is great.
The more controversy we bring to the Dem’s nomination process, the more the two sides will be irreconcilably PO’ed at the other side, we are getting close to the point where no matter who wins, the other side will believe it was stolen from them and hence unable to support the other person.
