The good news is that it does not matter that Hillary Clinton is well ahead of McCain in this state because 1) She has no chance of winning her party nomination and 2) New Jersey is part of her backyard (North East) anywa.
If we focus on the likely Democratic rival, Barack Obama, things aren't looking bad at all for the GOP.

I think those Italian Jersey Democrats won’t be voting for HUSSEIN Obama.

“New Jersey: Obama-McCain a Toss-Up”
McCain, liberal enough to have a shot in N.J.

If NJ is a toss up for Obama and McCain, Obama hasn’t a chance in the rest of the country. NJ, CA, NY, MA and CT are automatics for the dems and if any of them are on the bubble,it suggests the others might be in play as well. If so McCain wins, IMHO

I disagree. Obama and McCain have very opposite positions in the most important issues that affect us: Iraq, The economy, health care, etc.

Hillary Clinton is a daily TV presence in NJ and is beloved among NJ's large senior population of old-school Democrats.
They also elected NJ's defiantly unembalmed Senator Lautenberg.

Really does not matter if you believe he is materially different from John McCain because of the following scenario that WILL play out if John McCain is elected:
John McCain will grant amnesty to 20-40 million+ Illegal Aliens who will vote 70%+ Democrat (As they always have).
The resultant imbalance of majority Democrat votes will force the GOP into minority status for decades to come.
On top of that, millions of conservatives will leave the GOP because of John McCain's treachery further deepening the imbalance of GOP votes to Democrat votes.
The final 'nail in the coffin' will be his total inaction against chain-migration that will bring millions more Democrat votes into the equation.

I saw a poll that had it 48-46 in Mass for Obama over McCain. The Mass voters brought the trail run of Hope in 06 and is now regetting it.

Obama loses worse than Dukakis.
He loses 50-60% of white male democrats to McCain easy.

I agree on your point. McCain is still shooting himself in the foot and putting the ax in conservatives backs on a weekly basis. I think McCain wins in a landslide, but I'm not sure what morphing will happen once he’s in the White House. Really sad but I believe McCain was the only Republican candidate running this year that could actually win.
To: SoConPubbie
amnesty was defeated already. it’s not coming back
I also think mccain learned the hard way that mccain-feingold was pretty dumb. He may be the one to repeal it.

While it may not be the most popular idea here at FR, I have been saying from the start that Obama is McCain’s and the GOP’s only real shot to win this election, short of a bloomberg ticket on a 3rd party. - and that’s not going to happen.
Personally, I think that an Obama win in the Dem primary knocking out the Clintons once and for all, is nothing short of a visible interposition of God that gives the GOP a fighting chance in 08.
> She has no chance of winning her party
She has every chance.

I have to agree with your post, but disagree with one small part.

The resultant imbalance of majority Democrat votes will force the GOP into minority status forever.

Never underestimate the hypocrisy (and frankly, racism) of Northeastern liberals. I don’t see them voting for a black man.

You forgot Illinois.

John McCain will grant amnesty to 20-40 million+ Illegal Aliens who will vote 70%+ Democrat (As they always have). That is incorrect. Bush received 44% of the Hispanic vote in 2004. Kerry only received 56%.

Think about it.
That was before the McCain-Kennedy bill got defeated so soundly by REPUBLICANS!
That will be played up by the Democrats and the Pro-Illegal alien organizations thereby dropping those percentages bac to at least where I have put them.
