OK, I admit it- I’ve never heard of this place.

You need to pick one name, and you need to be a little more catchy and pronounceable.
Call it "Ralph". Or "Roger".
Who couldn't support independence for Roger?
But Pridnestrovie Transnistria has a bit of a PR problem.
I saw a “No Reservations” episode about Romania. It was like America before interstate highways (I remamber my dad would stop at the snake farm, or to watch a smoking chimpanzee, or, best of all, a chicken play piano.) Anthony Bourdain looked like he wanted to kill somebody.
It was smoking chimpanzees as far as the eye could see.

Can FReepers create their own country? All domiciles could be called embassy’s. We would than ask for financial UN aid. Our National food can be kielbasa & horseradish. With beer. Lot’s of beer. All citizens would have diplomatic immunity for anything. Just have to come up with a name now....
It is known in English as Transnistria (which is also the name of the region in Romanian), Trans-Dniester[10] or Transdniestria[11]. Its formal long name is its name in Russian Pridnestróvskaia Moldávskaia Respública (Moldovan: Република Молдовеняскэ Нистрянэ, Russian: Приднестровская Молдавская Республика, Ukrainian: Придністровська Молдавська Республіка, ПМР, English: Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic), as used by the breakaway Transnistrian authorities. This is abbreviated PMR. The short form of this name is Pridnestrovie (transliteration of the Russian "Приднестровье").
Etymologically, all the names come down to similar spelling variants of Transnistria, meaning "beyond the river Dniester", or Pridnestrovie, meaning "by the river Dniester".

hmmm...I’d like to have my own country here in FL...I wonder if I could set up a banana republic without actually growing any bananas. I could apply for a whole bunch of foreign aid from the US and so I wouldn’t need to tax myself at all...Of course, I would join NAFTA and all trade between my country and the USA would be duty-free. I could even provide housing for some of the poor poor pitiful poor of the US...
Oooh. I like your idea! mmmmmm beer.
Yikes!

I visited Romania and Bulgaria last summer. Romania, like you say, uses the Latin alphabet and is understandable and sometimes you can translate things. Bulgaria still uses Cyrillic and the signs and media might as well be written in Chinese characters they’re that unreadable.
I’m ready.
Yes, we need to form a coaliton of sane, taxpaying, Christian, conservative, responsible citzens.
You remember that red/blue map? The blue areas are already “occupied” by the insane godless liberal irresponsible PC loons.
So let’s grant them thei own coutry by proclaiming our own AND let them pay thier own taxes, run their own gubmints and affairs...you know like downtown Detroit, New Orleans, Philly, etc. ALREADY do, let’s just make it official and stop their cancerous spread and leeching off the rest of us!
I’ve already seen Jesusland. There’s red states.
But yes, we need a catchy name...”Land of the free home of the sane”?
Drink beer, eat aged cheese, eat volcanic goat cheese, drink coffee, clean keyboard.......
They have a hammer and sickle on their flag and their coat of arms. As far as I’m concerned that disqualifies them forever from having independence.
