TITLE: "Children"
LENGTH: 30 seconds
AIRING: Texas
SCRIPT: Announcer: "It's 3 a.m. and your children are safe asleep. But there's a phone in the White House and it's ringing. Something's happening in the world." (Sound of a phone ringing.) "Your vote will decide who answers that call, whether it's someone who already knows the world's leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead in a dangerous world. It's 3 a.m. and your children are safely asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?"
Hillary Rodham Clinton: "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message."
KEY IMAGES: The darkened exterior of a two-story, Colonial-style house with white columns framing the front door. Frames of young children, one clutching a stuffed animal, and an infant sleeping peacefully in their beds. A woman _ apparently intended to represent a concerned mother _ gently opens a door and enters a room. The final frame is of Clinton wearing reading glasses, her eyes cast downward as if she's reading or writing. The subdued lighting suggests nighttime.
ANALYSIS: The ad plays to voters fears and uncertainties in a dangerous world without explicitly identifying those dangers. One of Clinton's chief arguments for her candidacy is that she is an experienced leader who would be ready on "day one" to fill the role of commander in chief. She has sought to portray her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, as inexperienced and untested.
The ad is designed to appeal most directly to women with children. Clinton is counting on female power to energize her faltering presidential bid _ polls show she has a double-digit lead among women in Ohio. The former first lady and New York senator also leads among women voters in Texas, but the margin is slimmer. The two states hold primaries on Tuesday, offering large caches of delegates. The ad began running Friday, the same day that Clinton is scheduled to hold a campaign rally with veterans and flag officers in Waco, Texas.
Campaign aides said the ads are designed to reinforce Clinton's core argument in a state critical to the campaign's future. "It's a very clear illustration of the positive choice voters face," said Clinton campaign spokesman Jay Carson.
Or, use some crafy audio/video software to change the ending so that her whine about always being asked the hard questions first is inserted with the video of her answering a phone while wearing her "serious" glasses.
I went to DU to see the reaction and they are killing her over there over this ad. It’s awesome.
Bill Clinton said this in 2004: "One of Clinton's laws of politics is this: If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope."
Obama could just run Hillary's ad with that quote plastered across the screen the whole time. She'd be incinerated toast. Democrat voters would eat it up.
She’s already fairly close to being toast.
I still want to see her political career be treated like a vampire: stake through its heart and covered with garlic cloves.
“I went to DU...”
You are SO brave!! I just can’t bring myself to go there! Although, it is good to see what the enemy is up to! Thanks for your service!
The anti-Hillary threads there are better than ones here, actually, because it's cannibalism there.
Monica Lewinsky used to answer that 3am phone when Bubba was busy playing with his cigar.
They sort of act shocked by Hillary’s latest evil. There’s no shock value here, of course.
Must be hard for the DUers — They have to pick one of two socialists — can’t have both. Maybe they will be in the Nader camp before long!
John McCain.
Yeah, Hillary, we know about Clintons and phones. More like Phone sex with Monica.
We also know how reckless and negligent you co-presidents were when in came to protecting us from terrorist attacks. You thought sending a subpoena would really cause fear to the terrorist. Defending our nation was the last thing on your minds, you were more concerned about some mythical VRWC.
Move on Hillary, when it comes to answering the phone, you are a few rings too short.
I want McCain to answer that phone if it rings!!!!
If he drops the Global Warming fraud before November and promises that he does not believe it it than I will vote for him otherwise it is a vote for third party. It is up to John McCain.
I did this for another recent thread, and saw your comments. Let's hope it comes true really soon.
If the phone rings in Hillary’s bedroom won’t Huma be answering it?
Who do you want answering the phone?
It takes a Village to answer the phone.
