Adwatch: Clinton Ad "Children" Aims at Women Voters [Hillary says "Fear Obama"]
Townhall/The Associated Press ^ | 2-29-08 | The Associated Press

TITLE: "Children"

LENGTH: 30 seconds

AIRING: Texas

SCRIPT: Announcer: "It's 3 a.m. and your children are safe asleep. But there's a phone in the White House and it's ringing. Something's happening in the world." (Sound of a phone ringing.) "Your vote will decide who answers that call, whether it's someone who already knows the world's leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead in a dangerous world. It's 3 a.m. and your children are safely asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?"

Hillary Rodham Clinton: "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message."

KEY IMAGES: The darkened exterior of a two-story, Colonial-style house with white columns framing the front door. Frames of young children, one clutching a stuffed animal, and an infant sleeping peacefully in their beds. A woman _ apparently intended to represent a concerned mother _ gently opens a door and enters a room. The final frame is of Clinton wearing reading glasses, her eyes cast downward as if she's reading or writing. The subdued lighting suggests nighttime.

ANALYSIS: The ad plays to voters fears and uncertainties in a dangerous world without explicitly identifying those dangers. One of Clinton's chief arguments for her candidacy is that she is an experienced leader who would be ready on "day one" to fill the role of commander in chief. She has sought to portray her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, as inexperienced and untested.

The ad is designed to appeal most directly to women with children. Clinton is counting on female power to energize her faltering presidential bid _ polls show she has a double-digit lead among women in Ohio. The former first lady and New York senator also leads among women voters in Texas, but the margin is slimmer. The two states hold primaries on Tuesday, offering large caches of delegates. The ad began running Friday, the same day that Clinton is scheduled to hold a campaign rally with veterans and flag officers in Waco, Texas.

Campaign aides said the ads are designed to reinforce Clinton's core argument in a state critical to the campaign's future. "It's a very clear illustration of the positive choice voters face," said Clinton campaign spokesman Jay Carson.

Well, Hillary, you've convinced me to vote for McCain.

The joke is to visualize SNL-style what that call would be like. That’s when it’s really hilarious.

[In Hillary’s shrill shrieking voice] “What?! What the f&ck do you want?! Do you know what time it is? It’s 3 in the morning, a$$hole! This better be important!”

Not a bad idea, if you ask me. To those who would consider either one of the Rat candidates, it really does get theme thinking about whether they really want to take a chance on somebody as inexperienced as Obama. Of course the thought of either one of them answering that phone call scares the heck outta me, but it makes Clinton’s point pretty well, IMO.

She already has a double digit lead among (stupid) women. Its more or less maxed out. What does she expect it to become ? Triple digit ? The Jackasses that are running her campaign ..

A very strange sort of political ad.

I just wondered why the mother checking on her kids at 3am was wearing street clothes and not pajamas/robe.

It makes the point that her experience does not live up to whom should be answering the phone....

A great commercial would have been Hillary sitting at a desk working diligently and in the background you hear muffled music and a party going on. Girls laughing and glass breaking.
Then the door to the office bursts open and Bill comes staggering in with a coed under each arm.His shirt open and lipstick on his neck and collar.

“Ohhh Sorry baby, I didn’t know you were in here. I’ll be interviewing these two in the rumpous room!”

Who do you want answering the phone at the White House 3 a.m.?

(assume the phone call is to inform the President that a nuclear weapon has gone off in Tele Aviv)

My answer
no Democrat for sure (with the possible exception of Lieberman)
Not Huckabee, Romney,
McCain maybe
First choice
Dick Cheney
George Bush
Ambassador Bolton
General Patreus
Duncan Hunter
Rudy Giuliani
.....
.....
.....

a random Conservative off the street

someone who does not pick-up the phone and rolls over and goes back to sleep

choice 200,000,000 a random Democrat
choice 299,970,999 a Democratic politician
choice 299,999,998 a Democratic Presidential Candidate

So who would be calling at 3am?

How about Monica to see if Bill is free for a date?

or perhaps...

Putin, calling to explain why they just accidentally invaded California?

“Oh, thanks for the info Putin. Sure, I believe you, I always believe men. I believed Bill when he told me about Monica. I believed Bush when he told me about Iraq. Don’t worry about it...”

The only thing she left out of the ad was a mushroom cloud at the end, ala LBJ’s 1964 ad against Goldwater.
