Only the headline is posted. You don't suppose the NYT is trying to make sure there is NO republican candidate, do you?

ok here is the previous post on FR that has some interesting info. Like I posted here, McCain is a US citizen, he DERIVED citizenship from his parents, but the question still remains whether he is a ‘natural born citizen”

........................
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1971696/posts

There have been some posts on this topic already, but they are incomplete and the Mccain campaign, Wikipedia, and other sources have weaseled around it with a reference to a 1790 act of Congress defining foreign-born children of US citizens as natural-born, thus meeting to requirements to run for President.

I started digging into the Act of Congress that Mccain’s campaign said got him around this (5th Congress, March 26th 1790), but found that this act was repealed by the same Congress, January 29th, 1795, RE-defining such children as just American citizens (not natural-born, as required for Pres. by the Constitution), and that this act was re-repealed April 14th, 1802 by the 6th Congress, keeping the same definition of foreign-born US citizens.

Unless someone can show me something I’ve missed (and I can find nothing anywhere referring to ANY other defense on this issue as of yet), Mccain is NOT a natural-born citizen of the United States and according to all applicable laws I’ve found, is NOT eligible to run for President. Links to these Acts of Congress:

Does anyone here recall if these “eligibility questions” raised in the 2000 election? I wasn’t really following politics back then...

Virginia was a British Colony until 1775 so I guess Washington and Adams were in violation of the Constitution? /s

The NYT is showing some serious ignorance, but I guess it’s just another day at the office for them.

There was a discussion about this a few weeks ago.

I raised the point about possible semantic gymnastics because, although McCain is a "citizen by birth", he is so because of a law. He would not have been a citizen at the time of the constitution, but laws enacted later gave him natural birth rights.

I asked if some would attempt to argue that he be regarded as actually a "citizen by law" because of this.

Non-Sequitur kindly answered my question Here.

His answer was that it would be difficult consider McCain anything other than a "citizen by birth", thus he fulfils the constitutional requirement.

I didn't thank Non-Sequitur because the thread had run it's course, so, although belated, thanks for your taking the time to answer my question, Non-Sequitur.

Didn’t the NYTimes endorse McCain? You would think they would have known this before endorsing him.

McCain has to be laughing right now. The liberal drive by media is actually doing everything in their power to make me support him despite his liberalism.

Hawaii became a state in 1959. When was Obama born? Perhaps he is not a citizen!

Obama's biological father is a Kenyan, not an African-American. His mother was married to an Indonesian, and he even lived in Indonesia at one point. Doesn't it make him ineligible to run for a president? /s

BTW, Obama cannot say that his ancestors were slaved. Actually, being from Kenya, who knows if his ancestors were slave owners!

Is this the worst thing they can find on McCain? Do they not have internet access at the NYTs?

Well they obviously knew his birthplace when they endorsed him. The NY Slimes and every other liberal rag has been up Mccain's @$$ for the past year begging for him to be the nominee just so they could publish the material they assume will remove him from the race. Let the games begin...I'm popping some pop-corn.

Every time the Slimes run an anti-McCain story like this he gains 10 points in the polls.
