Walter Reed Syndrome, Few in Number, High in Spirit: Week 111, Olney,MD 2-23-08: Op. Infinite FReep
Feb. 27,2008

As at Walter Reed the night before Olney, sick FReepers and bad weather kept our troops' supporters down. The same continued into Saturday morning. But our small numbers did NOT keep down the warm support we received from the locals as they drove by.

Our few but proud and enthusiastic PATRIOTS included Legionnaires Halsey (USMC - Korea), Frank (Army - Korea), and Lurker Bill, iMacMan,, and my self, [Mr] T.

iMacMan took all the great pics this week, but alas, there are none of him this week.

We had 3 cars while stopped at the lights, thanking us for supporting our troops because their sons and daughters were in Country or going there. BELOW: Two of the proud mothers thanking us. This is her exact words.

BELOW LEFT: Two very punctual (every week and at same time) and friendly joggers. We can tell if we are late getting the flags and banners up by their appearance. BELOW RIGHT: A warm welcome to Frank, our fourth Patriot to show up.

BELOW: Lurker Bill working both directions because of our low numbers.

BELOW LEFT: Halsey, No. 5, and me talking before he grabbed a sign. BELOW RIGHT: Frank, me and Halsey.

BELOW: Because of our low numbers, we put up additional signs. That white stuff on the ground is ice. On Friday the D.C. area received some freezing rain, with some heavy drizzle at Walter Reed. Everything had a coating of ice. Usually at Olney, the banners get dried out from being wet at Walter Reed. But today, with the ice melting off the trees and power lines, the flags, signs and banners got soaked. They were put out Sunday to dry.

We also had this guy come up and take videos of us. He was doing a documentary. He was gave out limited answers to our questions. He was sly also. Usually when filming and asking questions of the subject, one stands behind the camera. This guy would occasional stand to the side of his camera as if not taking your picture, asking you questions. I guess he was hoping for a more candid conversation if it didn't seem you were having your picture taken. But our candid answers were the same no matter how he took your picture.

BELOW LEFT: Guy taking pics of Halsey and Frank. BELOW RIGHT: Taking pic of me before trying to slyly get a candid response from me.

BELOW LEFT: Taking pics of moonbats from our side. BELOW RIGHT: Taking pics of our side from the moonbats' perspective.

BELOW: And the guy doing the documentary also interviewed the moonbats. I think that this is the first time I've seen the moonbats smiling - Someone was actually talking to them.

BELOW: FYI, there were 8 moonbats today on a very overcast day.

BELOW: Some, actually a lot, of real neat pics by iMacMan. As a teaser, you need to look at everyone to see the extraordinary pics.

This guy gave us the thumbs up, then pointed to the moonbats and gave them the thumbs down.

REMEMBER
Next Saturday, same place, Georgia Avenue, MD Rte. 97 and MD Rte. 108 in Olney
NEW TIME - 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

But a lot of verbal engagement in Olney is always welcome.

Well you and the rest of the D.C. FReepers do a great job and more than deserve the kudos.

The Olney and the Walter Reed threads are the best, and are a must read for any new FReeper who wants to start a FReep in their own town or city.

One of these days, I’ll make the Olney FReep and get back out to Westminster. My schedule hasn’t permitted, yet, but it’s going to happen. Maybe I should put it on the calendar and refuse to re-schedule... :(

Much love to you tireless souls out there who make it every week to multiple FReeps. I’m with you in spirit, and sometime I’ll be with you bodily. :)

SP~

A very dear friend of mine goes to Walter Reed frequently. He used to go the ward where the new arrivals were cared for. He said it was very difficult surrounded by pale traumatized family members.
But, today, he went to the new clinic in Virginia. Here Walter Reed is doing miraculous things with smart prosthetics.
The really good news is that the surge is working! The number of amputees has declined dramatically. Only 7 in the last two months. The director said it used to average 170 for the same period prior to the surge.
