After several weeks of swooning, news reports are finally being filed about the gap between Senator Barack Obama's promises of a pure, soul-cleansing "new" politics and the calculated, deeply dishonest conduct of his actually-existing campaign. But it remains to be seen whether the latest ploy by the Obama camp--over allegations about the circulation of a photograph of Obama in ceremonial Somali dress--will be exposed by the press as the manipulative illusion that it is.
Most of the recent correctives have concerned outrageously deceptive advertisements approved and released by Obama's campaign. First, in Iowa, the Obama camp aired radio ads patterned on the notorious "Harry and Louise" Republican propaganda from 1993, charging falsely that Senator Hillary Clinton's health care proposal would "force those who cannot afford health insurance to buy it, punishing those who won't fall in line." In subsequent primary and caucus campaigns, the Obama campaign sent out millions of mailers, also featuring the "Harry and Louise" motif, falsely claiming that Clinton favored "punishing families who can't afford health care in the first place." A few bloggers and columnists, notably Paul Krugman in The New York Times, described the ads as distorting, but the national press corps mainly ignored them--until Clinton herself, seeing the fraudulent mailers reappear in Ohio over the past weekend, publicly denounced them.

In my view, Obama looks really stoned in that pic...
Sean Wilentz is an eminent and very left-wing US historian, who was behind the ad featuring 400 historians (some of the not actually historians) which appeared in the fall of 1998 attacking the investigation of Bill Clinton in the build-up to impeachment. So he has been in the tank for the Clintons for a long time...but it’s interesting to see that he hasn’t jumped ship to support an even more left-wing candidate.
Hildebeeste probably could’ve actually swung this election in a U-turn if she’d have simply said last night, “Why, Obama, I thought you looked cute in that outfit!”
No one honest can accuse Obama of playing the race card. Klintons have always played race cards and tried here and fell on their faces. Even yesterday when they circulated the Somali-Elder picture, it was another attempt to play race-card and it backfired again as even Conservatives called that campaign ridiculous.
There are many reasons why Obama should NOT be the President of the US. But those offered by Wilentz are not among them.
Congressman Billybob
What’s wrong with people? We can’t have Joe Camel in the White House. Think of the children!!!
Are you kidding or serious? I cannot tell.
Now I'm not sure whether this picture is a fake. But Obama is a smoker.
I doesn't matter to me, however.
My first thought exactly.
thanks, bfl
What’s this reference to “Stanley’s little boy” supposed to indicate, if you would be so kind?
b.hussian.obama's team called a spade a spade.
Weak sauce from Sean Wilentz
That said, b.hussian.obama's team see a lot of spades that are not there.
LOL! A girl named Stanley. Thank you very much!
You’re welcome.
a good a.m. chuckle for that. And you’re probably right!
Really? Did you read the article? Did you note Drudge's source for that photo -- an anonymous private email between Clinton campaign staffers, not meant for public consumption. I imagine a lot of senders of Freepmail don't mean for their correspondence to appear on Drudge, either.
The author is obviously a Clinton supporter, but the Clintons are too damn politically savvy to intentionally stir the race pot. The problem with Republicans is that they've wallowed in Clinton-bashing so long, and are so positively ecstatic to see Hillary go down, that they can't see that the alternative, Obama, is a potential national disaster.
I loathe the Clintons, but Obama has played and will continue to play the race card, with superbly crafted plausible deniability. McCain is next on the radar. You can bet on it, and if he's true to form, he will groveling at the media's feet, begging forgiveness for some Obama-concocted racial slur that wasn't.
And a boy named "Sue"?
