This is not really true.

Democrats called Reagan all the same names they have called Bush, a war-monger, a cowboy, a fool, etc. They didn’t like him until later, when he turned out to be right.

At the time, they liked him no better than Bush. Tip O’Neal and Reagan ripped each other on a regular basis, then went for a beer together.

And, Reagan was really no more staunch Republican than McCain, evidenced by Nancy Reagan’s and Micheal Reagan’s recent endorsements of McCain and their public statements that Ronald would vote for McCain.

So conservatives really need to give up the Reagan arguments. They aren’t really accurate in many cases, and they don’t matter anyway. Reagan isn’t ever running for office again.

So, you’re now a member of the Democrat Party?

Or a new member of the 50% of Americans who already don’t vote?

You do realize that inaction is in and of itself, an action with consequences, yes?

I have no idea where the writer gets the "70 percent of the country." He does not say. I was engaging in speculation with my 35/35/30 statement. That is admittedly too crude and simplistic. But it is closer to the truth than 70 percent.

"Since it’s statistics you like, give me your statistics on this statement?"

For example: rasmussenreports

"50% don’t vote, so what are they?"

Non-voters.

"65% of Republicans voted against McCain and for someone they thought more conservative than McCain, which is dangerously close to 70%."

Agreed, but that does not mean that 70% of the country is conservative.

"And, Mush of McCain’s support is coming from Democrats and Independents who think he is more conservative than Clinton and Obama."

No argument there.

"So, where are you getting your numbers from? DNC headquarters?"

I have no idea why you're being vitriolic. I'm sorry if I offended.

Any vote against McCain will be interpreted as the RNC not being liberal enough. Check what the RNC learned the last three times conservatives thought they would teach them a lesson in 1992, 1996 and 2006.

If you really believe this, you need to study Obama and Clinton much closer.

McCain is not my guy. But he is the only guy who can stop Clinton or Obama now. I disagree that he is equal to them. He is only equal to them on a few issues, all of which he can be blocked on if we elect conservative control of the senate.

You wish... because that would make you right. But this author has a very long history of being the opposite of your claims and that makes you the ill-informed fool.

IMO, look at who owns the government. We the People do not. THEY let us think they do. They are the oligarchy that pays taxes. The 1% that pays 40% of all taxes. The 5% that pay 60%. They gave us 25 years of Bush-Clinton...and would give us another 8-16 if they could, but will settle for McCain if they can’t. Barrack Hussein Obama will never be president.

Until we significantly reform how we tax one another, we will not reclaim our country, and will continue to be used by the oligarchy as they desire.

Of course you are not going to get much real thought or analysis here. There are too many people just spitting angry and running over the cliff with banners waving. Not too many are putting much thought into how to approach the future.

50% don’t vote for anyone, because no candidate represents what they are looking for.

Half of the 50% that do vote, are having increasing trouble knowing what to do.

And your solution is???

I’ll totally second this!

Conservatives didn’t fail to offer a conservative choice. Conservatives failed to unite behind any of those offered. That’s it... There is no more story to it. As a result of this reality, less than 30% of the party advanced McCain with the help of Democrats and Independents in early open primaries.

Before we can change anything else, we will have to change the internal conflict among conservatives, which is evidence here at FR better than anywhere else I have seen.

Without rehashing all of that, we are simply going to have to agree to disagree on these points.

And also McCain, by his actions, will also have to do the same, or be forced to in November.
However, he can earn my vote as per my tagline.

I might add that every time I start to look at him in a slightly less distasteful manner, he is sure to see another pile of dog crap and go out of his way to step in it.
As he just did in Ohio.
Brilliant strategy. Sigh...

Thank you for your post. - Bill

Yet winning elections is about both principle and the electability of the messenger. Hunter failed to grasp the imagination of more than 1% of conservative voters. They bought his principles, but not his ability to lead a winning campaign.

They had to buy both to support him.

Who did freeper’s buy on both counts? Fred Thompson...

And why didn’t Hunter supporters unite behind the most viable conservative available to them, along with the vast majority of conservatives at that moment?

The Republican Party is nothing more than the sum of its parts. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. 70% of the party is being run over by the other 30%... and you think this is somehow the fault of the 30%???

My withdrawal from the process won’t make a bit of difference, since the process does not include me in any way, already.

It matters not which thief is stealing from me, since I will be robbed anyway.

I will have no less input to their presidency than McCain’s, because I will have none. They will do no more damage than McCain, although they will try as hard as he will to bring everything down. I believe he will be more effective than either of them.

The odds are they will do less harm. They are AS evil, but less capable.

Are you really so myopic and petty as to make this mindless defense?

Thanks for stating an obvious which has been stated on FR more than a thousand times already, including by me.

The point remains valid... Conservatives in fact DID support “their” conservative candidates, eight of them, and because they were stuck on their candidate beyond all reason, even the 1% candidates, and failed to unite behind any one conservative, they got McCain...

They made their own bed and now they don’t like it. But it’s their bed now.
