John McCain apologized Tuesday for disparaging comments about Barack Obama made by talk radio host Bill Cunningham at a McCain campaign rally in Cincinnati. Cunningham, a radio host at WLW-AM, had warmed up the crowd at Memorial Hall with comments about Obama and Hillary Clinton, likening Obama to a hack, Chicago-style politician and saying the Illinois senator would saddle up next to Hezbollah, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il if elected president. When McCain addressed the crowd, he apologized for the remarks. I regret any comments that may be made about these two individuals (Obama and Clinton) who are honorable Americans, he said. We just have strong philosophical differences, and so I want to disassociate myself from any disparaging remarks that may have been said about them.

Precisely. Romney, who's not exactly conservative, had more total Republican popular vote than McCain at the time Romney dropped out of the race, so that tells you where McCain's main support has come from.
McCain came on and collapsed like a cardboard box. This will be his Presidency...apologizing for everything ...
I wonder should McCain win in November if he would then switch his party affiliation to Democrat, just to spite Conservatives.
McCain didnât do any name calling. McCainâs political correct stupidity is apologizing for relatively benign comments by a talk radio host who has no relationship to his campaign.
McCain needs to apologize to all Republicans for not doing the right thing, like getting out of this race. It will be him that puts Obama or Hillary in the WH.
He is a truly awful candidate. There isn’t even anything likeable about him.
Bust guess, he would be a failure in the WOT, and cave to Democrats on a regular basis.
I knew my instincts were right when I decided he would never get my vote. I just try to pretend he isn’t there.
That “my friends” is not hard to do.
But you offer no viable or better alternatives. You can only scorn McCain and all that supports him because you didn’t get your way.... what ever that is. No one could ever fill the shoes you want. Not even Reagan.
The commie comment was for those who believes no one’s votes count unless it’s your own vote or you agree with such votes. Like you would be all for installing just the guy you can accept.
I frankly don’t believe any such person exists and have a Chinaman’s chance in hell to be president.
By the way, smearing people in your own party just because you don’t like his stand on some issues doesn’t sound all that conservative to me. Some of you seem more like spoiled children that doesn’t get your way and you’re wildly striking out, eyes clinched tight, thumbs firmly tucked in little fists.
Take what life deals with you man and make the best of it. Adapt and over come. Stop crying about what you can’t change.
McCain wasn’t my first choice nor the second but he’s all I have to vote for. My first two choices was also smeared here as well.
Just be nice while they chew on you, Juan.
McCain didn’t even respond to him when he lied about our military in the debate last Thursday.
McCain is useless.
“I dont know who is more politically correct, McCain, Hillary or Obama.”
Three way tie.
Cunningham speaks out about it here:

Boys and girls, can you say “Bob “DolemcCain”? That’s right boys and girls! Can you also say “McLoser”?
Jeez, I may end up writing in ‘Gary Coleman’ on the ballot
I like your assesment.
I’ve seen people smear Bush here as well.
Theres a whole lot difference between a difference of opinion and going any length smearing a guys name, name calling and even out right lying.
THOUGHT we’re all old enough to know the difference. Obviously, a lot here don’t.
I don’ agree entirely with McCain, nor Bush and I don’t mind saying so but you wont find me going the length many here goes to smear McCain.
Come to think about it, I don’t know of any president we’ve had that I was happy about everything they did but then again, none of them was president for just me. So, I can understand this. No need to go around smearing them.
I agree. McCain is worse than I imagined. But, we should be grateful the Democrats and Independents let us have someone even this conservative. Next time they may give us Pelosi as our candidate.
Prior to the Potomac primaries, McCain received 31% of the total primary votes and became the presumptive nominee. He was the only top tier candidate of either party not to get at least 53% of the vote from his home state. He received 47% of the primary vote in AZ. McCain is a dead man walking.
I don’t recall Ronald Reagan ever denigrating his opponents like that either...
Notice McCain “maturity” when speaking of the President’s welcome home to the aircraft carrier, that had set a record being out to sea over a year, (they had turned around on 9/11.)
Maverick McCain rips GOP By Noelle Straub Friday, April 2, 2004
WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain yesterday unleashed an attack on his own party, saying the GOP is ``astray on key issues and criticizing President Bush [related, bio] on the war in Iraq.
*****``I believe my party has gone astray, McCain said, criticizing GOP stands on environmental and minority issues.
*****``I think the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy, he said. ``But I also feel the Republican Party can be brought back to the principles I articulated before.
*****The maverick senator made the remarks at a legislative seminar hosted by U.S. Rep. Martin T. Meehan (D-Lowell) as he again ruled out running on a ticket with Democrat John F. Kerry [related, bio].
*****The Arizona Republican took on President Bush for failing to prepare Americans for a long involvement in Iraq, saying, ``You cant fly in on an aircraft carrier and declare victory and have the deaths continue. You cant do that.
*****McCain said the U.S. should seek more U.N. involvement in Iraq. ``Many people in this room question, legitimately, whether we should have gone in or not, he said, adding that that debate ``will be part of this presidential campaign.
(and he was mavericking on David Letterman last year, claiming GWB “wasted” the lives of our troops)
So don’t lecture us on lying and smearing.
McCain is expert at it, ONLY with members of his own party.
Well, you are not alone, McCain's own ad man has announced to the world that he will not work against the messiah, Hussein. FGS
