Man gets 18 months in jail for putting abortion pills in girlfriend's food

STOCKHOLM,Sweden: A Swedish court of appeal on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old man to 18 months in prison for trying to make his girlfriend miscarry by mixing abortion pills in her food.

The man, who was not named for legal reasons, had his jail term increased from a previous one-year sentence set by a district court in June.

In its ruling, the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden found the man guilty of aggravated assault for attempting to make his girlfriend of eight years miscarry by giving her a yoghurt containing three ground-up pills. The sentence also included a more minor count of assault.

The court documents said the woman had decided to have the baby even though he felt he was not ready to be a father. The man ordered some pills on the Internet and fooled his doctor into prescribing others for another condition.

The woman ate the yoghurt and suffered severe stomach pains and vaginal bleeding.

When she later realized what she had eaten, she decided to have an abortion, fearing that the fetus had been permanently damaged by the pills.

I just attended a funeral today for a girl who (we think) committed suicide (rope in the garage) after a boyfriend-pressured abortion.

Boys who don't want to be fathers, after having sex, should maybe be castrated and sent to manage a Saudi harem or something. I'm sick of these miscreants.

Of course she had some responsibility, especially for the suicide, but so does the miscreant adolescent who thinks he gets to have sex without consequences.

Wouldn't happen- the emergency contraception kit only works if it is taken before the zygote implants itself in the uterine wall, so by the time the woman knows she's pregnant it won't work. In this particular case the woman probably ingested RU-486.

She should have dumped him- this is no different from being given cyanide IMO. I also take issue with the sentence- 18 months for deliberately poisoning someone? He should be put away for life.

From a political standpoint, the most outrageous thing about this story is the fact that an adult (27-years-old), who has been convicted of this crime, gets his name withheld to protect his privacy. Shouldn't the women of Sweden have a chance to know who did such a thing?
