Abortion resolution fails again in (TN) House subcommittee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A resolution that would change the state’s constitution to allow more limits on abortion has failed a vote, likely ending consideration for this legislative session.

The measure sponsored by Rep. Dolores Gresham, a Somerville Republican, was voted down 6-3 Tuesday in the House Public Health and Family Assistance Subcommittee. The bill has repeatedly failed in the Democrat-controlled subcommittee.

The measure, which passed the Senate last month, sought to nullify a state Supreme Court ruling that finds the Tennessee Constitution offers greater protection for abortion rights than the U.S. Constitution.

The proposal would have said “nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion.”

Of course, for Democrats abortion rights are more important than the rights guaranteed by the US Constitution.

Can’t let the folks in the states decide whether the state should allow abortion or not now can we?
Many politicians should be taken to town squares and have rotten veggies tossed at their sorry asses.

Be careful - the Constitution does not guarantee rights. It lists governmental powers.

Rights need not be listed in the Constitution to be retained by the People. Common mistake, but a dangerous one.

That doesn't mean the states can't regulate abortion under the Tenth Amendment, but let's be clear on what the purpose of the Constitution is.
