The Obama Worm Turns: Stephanopoulos Calls Barack 'A Reflexive Liberal'
Newsbusters ^ | 2/24/2008 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 02/24/2008 7:21:28 PM PST by markomalley

Media watchers have been asking themselves since Barack Obama became the front-runner to win the Democrat nomination for president when the press will turn against him and start treating the junior senator from Illinois like a candidate instead of a rock star.

The worm might have turned on Sunday's "This Week," when, as my colleague Brad Wilmouth reported, Cokie Roberts actually used the feminist card to trash Obama for Hillary's sake.

Almost as tasty, about three minutes later, a discussion about how Obama is beatable as the Democrat candidate began with Cokie saying (video available here, relevant section begins at minute 12:30):

I mean, you look at these numbers, and you still see lots of landmines, not in necessarily, in the nomination, but in the general election. I mean, you start looking at young voters, are they going to show up? Probably not. They never have before. By the time November comes, they'll be tired. They'll have heard it all. You look at Independents, they're the least likely people to vote. I mean, you have all these groups that are not necessarily going to show up...You wonder if the enthusiasm is going to hold through November.

This led to a discussion about Michelle Obama's comments earlier in the week, and an extended conversation about problems that her husband is going to have in the general election if he wins the nomination.

In particular, host George Stephanopoulos talked about Obama's vulnerabilities:

Number one, that he comes off as someone that is a little aloof, not someone that really cares about people in his bones. And secondly, that he will be accused of being a reflexive liberal despite all this talk about him being a bipartisan healer.

George Stephanopoulos, while the cameras were rolling, actually called someone a liberal? Are you kidding me?

Oddly, that mightn't have been as shocking as Ron Brownstein's response (LA Times):

Among kind of a blue-collar America where experience counts more, where national security may count somewhat more in a traditional way that Republicans kind of play it, you can, you can imagine an opportunity for John McCain to win in particular a lot of the white, waitress moms that Bush won in 2004 around security issues who have not voted for Obama in this campaign. And, that is, you could see, for example, an Obama who could be a very strong candidate in Virginia, a Colorado, an affluent state, but have a lot of trouble in some of these interior states that are economically troubled.

Stephanopoulos agreed: "The Reagan Democrats who have gone to Clinton go back to McCain."

So did Roberts: "I think that's right."

Is this a foreshadowing of things to come when and if Obama wins the nomination? Only time will tell.

“Hillary is a narcissistic ideologue who believes so completely that she knows better than anyone what is best for all of us that she would do or say almost anything to become president.”

Sounds like John McCain too. Didn’t he once say she’d make a great President?

“Clinton has the best shot of succeeding; she has an ex-president as her co-president, knows the score, has the people, and owns the dirt on thousands of string-pullers. Don’t be stupid - don’t waste an ounce of effort on Obama before the witch is toast (and then make sure she is toast again). They have been preparing and greasing for almost a decade in power, and almost a decade out of power. Don’t give them another near-decade to bring their efforts to fruition.”

Again, absolutely correct. If the Clintons wind up in power again their influence will be felt for decades.

When Hillary Clinton is elected President and shuts down FR

What she would do is make anonymous postings on the internet a thing of the past. That way the left can get people fired, audited, vandalize their cars, poison their pets. It's how tyrant thugs operate.

America can survive another Carter-like administration with Obama followed by a Reagan-like win in 4 years. Clinton though would be very bad news.

It's interesting how if the delegate counts were reversed everyone would be telling Obama to give it up. Yet with the Clintons no one will count them out.

But the Clintons are smart enough and sleazy enough to pivot back to the center if they win the nomination. Obama is a proud Marxist, and he won't run away from that. After the nation gets over the novelty of Obama, the voters will rightly reject him in the fall. Same thing happened with Kerry, Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern. Every time the Dems nominate a proud liberal, it's the same old story. It's the principle-free types like the Clintons that you have to worry about.

Ding, ding, ding ... we have a winner.

Hildebeast and The Stain® need to be repudiated and sent packing.

We can deal with the magic empty suit in November

Excellent observation.

“Clinton can still win this thing. I urge all to prop her up in the March 4th states (TX, OH, RI, VT) if you are able.”

You’ve lost your senses. Prop her up? I’d rather be struck by lightning. Barack’s beatable — Hillary is pure evil and would find a way to destroy McCain. You don’t want to let Hillary even get CLOSE to having a chance.

She won’t but I want it to drag out as long as possible.

The Dems won’t tolerate her stealing it away from him if he ends up with more pledged delegates (but not a majority of them)and more popular votes.

I want her to TRY and steal it tear the Party apart while she does it.

No. Stephanopoulos did not call Obama a liberal...at least, not anywhere in this article. He said Obama will be accused of being a liberal...in other words...those nasty Republicans will call him a reflexive liberal.

Stephanopoulos, like the rest of the liberal media will be solidly in Obama's court as soon as he wins the nomination.

Michelle Obama hasn’t said one thing about the US before the year 2007 that would make her proud to be a citizen of the greatest nation in the history of mankind that has placed her amongst the most privileged of the elite in this country.
I never thought that I would see a spouse of a presidential candidate who was more of a radical, narcissistic, arrogant, hubristic, self-entitled, and maddening solipsist than Hilary Clinton. To the nation’s dismay, I think we have found her. She is the Obama campaign loose cannon Benito Mussolini face of liberal fascism that Barack Hussein Obama is so careful to mask.
The ascendancy of BHO is the realization of the efforts of all the Cultural Marxists whose ideas were nurtured by the Gramcians who set up the Frankfurt School and spawned cultural radicals like Erich Fromm, Herbert Marcuse, and Theodore Adorno. Their intellectual progeny are thoroughly ensconced in the MSM, academia, Hollywood, and most importantly in the George Soros directed modern day Democratic Party which is the nest for all the Vipers on the left, the racial identity determininists, the radical feminists, the sexual deviationist lobby, the “watermelon” environmentalists, the open borders crowd and the anti-war seditionists who seek to steal from our magnificent armed forces the victory that they have earned with their blood and valor in the SAME MANNER as they stole our hard earned victory from those of us who are Vietnam vets.
Their apotheosis is the religion of Obama, the Lucifer deceiver who would lead this great nation to Fabian Socialist HELL!!!
Should Obama or Clinton get a compliant Democrat Congress and Senate, the damage done to this country and to liberty as we have known it, would be incalculable. They are the most dangerous presidential candidates since Henry Wallace. Please check this link. It will tell you all that you need to know. There is credible info that could lead one to believe that his Indonesian stepfather to him to Mosque with the intent of making him Muslim. His own campaign said in a LA Time article that he was never a REGULARLY practicing Muslim, leading one to infer that he was an IRREGULARLY practicing Muslim. That is enough for the Muzzies to convict him as an apostate or to accept him as one of the faithful deceiving the dhimmis. Check the years 1971-1973 at the link below.

We changed registration a couple of weeks ago for that purpose. SD, June primary; maybe she'll last that long.

Obama is having the worst luck of someone on a winning streak right now...no games to play for a long stretch.

Hey Dog&Pony, can you extend on this remark? In other words, huh? I don't get it.

When you are winning game after game you want to keep playing. Remember the Colorado Rockies last year. They finished the season winning something like 18 out of 19 games and then in the playoffs they swept the Phillies and the Diamondbacks and THEN they had about 10 days off waiting for the Red Sox to finish up with Cleveland.

In the World Series they were swept in 4 games.

When you are on a winning streak you want to just keep right on playing with no break.
