Gov. Rick Perry is strongly urging Mike Huckabee to drop his Republican presidential bid.
Mr. Perry told a Washington, D.C., TV station last week, "It's over for the Republican nomination. And I respect Mike, but it's time for us as a party to get behind Senator [John] McCain," who has an overwhelming delegate lead and is close to securing the GOP nod.
Mr. Perry has called Mr. Huckabee urging that he drop out of the race, but the comments are the first time he has done so publicly. Mr. Huckabee has expressed confidence that he can win Texas' March 4 primary and still compete for the nomination.
Mr. Huckabee, noting Mr. Perry initially supported Rudy Giuliani in the Republican contest before backing Mr. McCain, said Saturday, "Rick has made his second choice already in the race, and it is sad that he doesn't seem to want the Republicans in Texas to even get to make one choice."

The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs the affairs of man [Romans 8:28]. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice [Matthew 10:29], is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it [Psalms 127:1]. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel [Genesis 11:1-9].

Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.

McCain is Christian.
Once McCain is nominated, most Republicans and many conservatives will vote for him in the general election. Until the convention, Huckabee is free to run. Even if independents are taken into account, Huckabee doesn't affect the outcome of the general election in a big way (if McCain is the candidate).
Suspect most politicians, left and right wing, are more agnostic than Christian. Religion is often used as a tool to get elected (among other manipulations).
Aye, right. For example, Hussein Obama uses religion; he's God to the stupid.

If that photo is intended to inspire anything other than disgust for the subjects, it has FAILED!
All I can see, and I’m certain I’m NOT alone, is an example if the disdain, disgust, and disregard the “holier-than-thou” crowd reserve for “we the unwashed”.
Vote for McCain. See where we all end up.
They called us fools...
Keep on going, Huckabee.
Rick Perry, the insider politician, is living proof that you should continue.
Huckabee isn’t perfect, but he’s the best challenge to McCain we’ve got and let the challenge continue.
I want more conservative delegates at this convention and I think Huckabee’s ranks are filled with them.
Texas is winner take all delegates and may Huckabee win and take them all away from McCain and the party insiders.
Rick’s right.
And you're wrong.
In what sense of the word?
In the same sense as Huckabee— different sins, but on par.
He's already got my "nod".
I'm nodding off at the "exciting" thought of a juan mcinsane presidency.
Of course, like previous RINO's (ford, dole, etc.), he's bound to lose it all for our party.
If he does squeak a win out, he'll be another poppa bush "read my lips" president who tells us what we want to hear, and then proceeds to SCREW us at every turn (taxes, gun control, you name it).
Still like the idea of a RINO-free "Constitution Party".
First he was Rudy's lapdog and now he's licking MeCain's hand.
I've never seen a man pander and grovel for a job like this RINO has the last 6 mths.
What difference does it make if Huck stays in or gets out?
Well, I am no Huck guy Grandma, but I feel at this point the only thing Huck can hope for is to stay and and hope for a brokered convention.
Of course if he backs out it's a done deal. I think thats why Rommney suspended his campaign rather than quit outright.
Regards.
