If Sharia Law was in place in the United States, I would've been hanged years ago for some of this. Via Michelle Malkin, this story from our ally Saudi Arabia should give us a hint about picking our friends:
Prosecutors in Saudi Arabia have begun investigating 57 young men who were arrested on Thursday for flirting with girls at shopping centres in Mecca.
The men are accused of wearing indecent clothes, playing loud music and dancing in order to attract the attention of girls, the Saudi Gazette reported.
They were arrested following a request of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
The mutaween enforce Saudi Arabias conservative brand of Islam, Wahhabism.
Earlier in the month, the authorities enforced a ban on the sale of red roses and other symbols used in many countries to mark Valentines Day.
The ban is partly because of the connection with a pagan Christian holiday, and also because the festival itself is seen as encouraging relations between the sexes outside marriage, punishable by law in the kingdom.
The Prosecution and Investigation Commission said it had received reports of such bad behaviour by 57 young men at a number of shopping centres in the holy city of Mecca, the Saudi Gazette said.
The Sharia practicers really don't like Valentine's Day. Wahhabism, by the way, is the brand of Islam that Osama Bin Laden practices. As for the word Conservative describing it, a more apt word would be medieval, as Charles points out. Take a careful look at Islam...

I worked in the Magic Kingdom for two years in the ‘80’s. I worked in an office where there were no women working at all. All our secretaries were male, mostly Muslims from India and Pakistan. They spoke English and had good typing skills. Good guys most of them. Anyway, most of them had these Saudi telephone girlfriends. Saudi women would just call up our office and start up a conversation with these guys and it would go on for months or even longer. They would never meet in person because it would have been curtains for our guys. The women were working on the English and flirting skills.
A very warped society.

Cuz we want cars that can go from 0-60mph is 3.4 seconds.
That’s basically it. Everything else a car can be done
can be done with car running on relatively free electricity,
veggie oil, or hydrogen. You can build palaces on wheels that
run on veggie oil, or hydrogen, or electricity, It just
isn’t as quick, yet.

The wahabists have failed to figure out that covering up exposed flesh with black cloth often only makes some women look more attractive and leaves more to the imagination of the men, who probably have highly developed imaginations in places like Saudi Arabia.

Really? Sure about that?

Performance is not an issue with electrics; it's cheaper and easier to get high torque out of an electric motor than out of a gasoline engine. The issues with electrics are: range, temperature performance, charge time, battery cost, and battery maintenance. Of these, battery maintenance and charge time are no longer issues with the latest generation of li-ions, like the A123 cells used in Dewalt power tools. Charge time also requires infrastructure, but that's obviously not a show stopper. Low temperature performance with modern li-ions is now better than gasoline engines. Battery cost is still expensive, but likely simply needs mass production to be brought down to size. So, the only real remaining issue is range. Given that there are three different techs currently being commercialized that, in the lab, 2-3x the energy density, that seems likely to be remedied soon as well.
I hate the fact that we're buying oil from people sponsoring al-Qaeda and trying to destroy the US while smiling and shaking our hands. With electrics, I see American ingenuity and entrepreneurship making it so we can use our natural resources -- coal, nuclear, etc -- to not simply run our cars, but give us better performance, lower operating costs, more reliable operation (much fewer parts), the ability to refill from your own home, and so on. Yeah, there are a bunch of little feel-good hippie NEV cars out there that use lead-acid batteries and putter around like golf carts, but who cares about them? I'm looking at things like the VentureOne, the Tesla, and so on.

The previous poster was correct. Electric cars cost around 2 cents per mile in electricity. Compare that to what you pay in gasoline.
