May God save the Republic!
One doesn’t have to make up stuff on the Messiah. One should, with historical foundations, be able to simply nominate this guy as the newer socialist pacifist from the days of FDR, even Woodrow Wilson, McGovern, the populism of Huey Long and the ‘60’s radicals who always blamed America and called for, guess what? Change! Nothing new but the package and it is selling well retail and wholesale. Probably will win since the Pub conserv purists think they should stay home and watch the Republic fall into a Third World status.
I guess I went to a pretty good high school. Their education included courses in American Government, which I enjoyed immensely. The section on running for political office made it abundantly clear that sloganeering, promises, and above all, the ability make the campaign language so vague that you the voter believed it included your concerns were cornerstone principles for victory in an election.
And who is being more vague? Who has the better slogans?
The demand for substance is phoney, and, at best, a trap the wary candidate knows well enough to avoid.
If substance was a key to victory, then everyone would be doing it. Instead, being vague is the key, and so it goes...
