Dirty Journalism: The New York Times Slimes John McCain
Center for Individual Freeedom ^ | Feb. 22, '08 | staff

Our disagreements and battles with John McCain are legion. We have argued, advertised, organized, lobbied and litigated against his positions - on taxes, on judicial confirmations, on illegal immigration, on his assaults on the First Amendment, including so-called campaign finance reform. We shall continue to do so. Still, we would not now nor ever have done what the New York Times did to him, which is publish a story based on implication and innuendo and zero proof beyond statements of former anonymous aides that they believed that McCain had an affair with a lobbyist, and equally flimsy evidence that McCain acted improperly on behalf of the lobbyist's clients. The Times had the story, such as it is, at least as far back as December, when Drudge reported behind-the-scenes activity to stop the story. Why did the Times wait until now to publish? It's inconceivable that the top editors and the publisher didn't know the details of the news story when the Times endorsed McCain. How can any responsible newspaper endorse a candidate for president when that newspaper is sitting on allegations that could end that candidate's career? Is it true, as McCain's lawyer has said, that the Times omitted considerable evidence that McCain did nothing improper?

Even many liberals have said there's no "there there." But why should anyone be surprised when the Old Grey Lady employed Jason Blair who fabricated "news" stories? This is also the paper that published top secret classified defense information on page one; and which also published photographs from Iraq which it knew were doctored. The only surprise is that the Times has become such an obvious and incompetent propagandist for the Left.

Well, at least he doesn’t give any face time to lobbyists.

A fox (John McCain) and a scorpion (Pinchy Sulzberger) wandered along the banks of a wide river, both wondering how to get across. The scorpion was too small to cross himself, yet he had knowledge of a place where the river was more shallow and less wide, and much easier to cross. The fox, while an exceptional swimmer, was wise enough to know he was not strong enough to swim the full width of the river.

When the fox and the scorpion crossed paths, the scorpion made his proposal, “If you agree to carry me across the river, I will show you to the place where it is easiest to cross.”

The fox said, “No. If I carry you, you’ll sting me and I’ll drown.”

The scorpion assured him, “If I did that, we’d both drown.”

The fox thought about it and finally agreed. So the scorpion showed the fox the easy crossing as promised, climbed up on the fox’s back and the fox began to swim.

Halfway across the river, the scorpion stung him.
As the poison filled his veins, the fox turned to the scorpion and said,

“Why did you do that? Now you’ll drown too.”

“I couldn’t help it,” said the scorpion. “It’s my nature.”

They cover an 8 year old dead story, but they won’t cover a homosexual cocaine LARRY SINCLAIR video and polygraph.

They couldn’t let him go general election as Mr. Character could they?

NYT Makes typical Klintonian move - make people believe that he is just like us - no difference.

Take away his Character-Advantage.

Give surrogates opportunity to run around and say, Senator McCain is not clean either and has his own set of issues.

Liberal Media is Evil but Brilliant!!!

The homosexuals at the NYT are probably trying to blunt the reports about Obama supposed homosexual adventures before they hit the MSM

While the Times actions are deplorable, that it was Pinchy’s best girl, John McCain, who was shafted makes their perfidy a little less unpalatable...a bit like Mao sticking it to Kruschev.

They "endorse" him before he's got a lock on the nomination (their favorite liberal "republican").

After it looks like he DOES have a lock on the nomination, they start slamming him, to try and ensure that their SLIGHTLY more liberal demonRAT candidates have a leg up.

In truth, mccain's a LOSER LIBERAL with an "R" after his name, and he, and his cronies, are going to send us into the "wilderness" for YEARS to come.

THANK YOU RINO lovers/supporters and enablers/facilitators.

McCain gained a lot of fans yesterday because of this hit piece. He’s pretty well united the party now.

Dude, you’re way off. McCain has an R in FRONT of his name, not AFTER it.

Exactly right. As Bernie Goldberg said in book “Bias,” it’s not just what they say and slant that shows liberal bias but also what they OMIT.

John McCain is about to make 1/2 of the Senate and all but about 13 US Congressmen look like the earmarking, corrupt organization it is. The New York Times has clumsily tried to shut down/mute what will be the centerpiece of John McCain’s Presidential run with a slimey, anonymous hit piece. It’s going to be bloody on both sides of the isle. JMHO.

Right - and the most outrageous thing is they were sitting on this story after they endorsed McCain. It’s becoming obvious they intended to use that to set him (and the GOP) up for a defeat. Even the tabloids can print more believable fiction than that.

conspiracy

If this story was floating around, the NY Times picked about the best possible time (for McCain) to drop it. It will be forgoton after the Texas primary whether Texas means the end for Clinton or whether she has a “miraculous” comeback. Its far from the convention and this prevents the Dems from dropping it right before the election. Perhaps the Times wants to help McCain

/conspiracy

I think they’ve blown themselves up. Their circulation and stock are crashing. Their editorials were always liberal. But what’s become obvious now is that even their “hard” news columns are also editorials.
