Draft Haley Barbour for VP.
Paid for by Draft Haley for Vice President ^ | 2-22-8 | Draft Haley for Vice President

Posted on 02/22/2008 4:26:39 PM PST by WKB

Help us convince the GOP nominee to pick Haley Barbour as his vice-presidential running mate; and help convince Haley to say, “YES!” Our goal is to deliver a petition signed by 50,000 GOP supporters to the presumptive GOP nominee and to Governor Barbour by March 1, 2008.

I’ve never seen a poll which suggested Joe Sixpack gives a rip that someone was a lobbiest. I think that’s only a problem in the minds of politicians and the talking heads.

60?

I agree McCain could use more age balance but for a presidential candidate, 60 is pretty much prime time.

no he’s not, but that doesn’t mean anyone but the blacks and the yellow dogs are gonna vote for Obama.

Heck, all you gotta do is distribute the photo of him not pledging the flag and he’d be toast.

I share your POV but IF it were true that the great majority of MS voters shared them, do you really think Billy McCoy and his band of henchmen would have so much political power in our state?

Remeber how JT and Dave were challanging voters to ask their rep whether or not he’d back McCoy for the speakership this time?

Yet...there he is.

If our fellow voters were paying attention to the immigration issue or most others that conservatives take issue with McCain on, that wouldn’t be the case.

In fact, the average general election voter (not the primary voter - they are informed)doesn’t have a clue what “McCain/Kennedy” or “McCain/Feingold” actually do.

Sadly.

The upside of that (if you want McCain elected which I am ambivalent about) is that those are the same voters who will react viscerally (in the negative) to so many different things about Obama that it hardly matters what they learn about McCain.

Two old white guys is not my idea of what the best Presidential ticket should truly be for the GOP in ‘08! A majority of voters truly need to get as excited as possible about voting for the GOP Presidential ticket and all “truly conservative” candidates running for a variety of political offices at every level on November 4, if such a thing can truly and successfully be made possible. McCain truly needs somebody who is either: younger than McCain; a truly conservative individual; and/or who is a minority. Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, Mike Pence, J.C. Watts, Mark Sanford, or Janice Rogers Brown would definitely be on my short list of serious V.P. choices for McCain, if I was doing the choosing. McCain could truly hurt his chances for victory in the general election if he seriously chooses another RINO to be his final V.P. choice, but it also wouldn’t surprise me at all if McCain does end up choosing another RINO to be his running mate-upsetting a majority of conservatives even further.

This is but one reason I admire him so much.
He's a man of his word.

The renewal after Katrina is still ongoing, and will be for quite a while to come.

Cherish the fact that MS has such a good Governor.

"Haley’s my first choice for 2012"

Mine, too...for the top of the ticket.

He’s already made his peace. And he’s not going to do anything stupid even if I wanted him to at this point to hurt his (our, or perhaps I should say my) chances in the general election.

Is he 60? Thanks. Alright, he looks a little older than that.

Nope. A good southern conservative governor doesn’t need to be reduced to being an errand boy for a RINO.

Barbour actually has a future, so he should refuse.

My thoughts exactly. No sense wasting good talent on this election.

I like Janice Rogers Brown also.
Bobby Jindal would also be a good choice -- except I'd hate to lose him as Governor (particularly if the Republicans lose in November).

My bet, though, is McCain will go with a liberal/moderate for VP.

Dont sell this country short.

We need a conservative in the white house - this is the closest we will get, and it set things up for Barbour to be president down the road.

or you get this ...

He should be on the short list ... and as is clear, mcCain would help himself with the conservatives base by putting a conservative on the ticket.

We need conservative + governor.
Who better than barbour?

Barbour is conservative, smart and articulate.

It’s funny that people have let regional biases get in the way of liking excellent guys like Romney, Barbour etc.

Barbour is conservative, smart and articulate.

And enjoys a good nightcap of bourbon.

Excellent conservative spokesman, accomplished governor, geograhphic balance, wit, and street smarts.

Whomever the Veep is now is well set up for 2012, because I can’t see McCain running for a second term. You could a hell of lot worse than Haley Barbour.

He would be my 2nd to last choice for VEEP. (My last choice would be the little pansy, Lindsey Graham.)

First of all, Haley Barbour’s nasal, twangy Southern accent even turns off Southerners; Northerners hate it.

Secondly, we need a Conservative from a Red State that we stand a chance of losing or from a Blue State we have a chance of carrying. We will get Mississippi’s few Electoral Votes anyhow.

Rather than others drafting a v.p. for him, I would rather see who McCain comes up with on his own. A really solid choice by him would allay the fears of many who question his judgement or his commitment to conservative principles.

Don’t know if it would be enough for me, but it would be a step in the right direction.
