Iran military gets 74 new gunboats

Tehran, Iran, Feb. 22 – Iran’s armed forces have added 74 new gunboats to their naval apparatus, state media reported on Friday.

“With Defence Minister [Brig. Gen. Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar] present, an assortment of 74 logistical and fast boats ... were handed over to the naval forces”, the government-owned news agency Fars said.

The Defence Ministry announced that all 74 boats were produced domestically.

Mohammad-Najjar described the Islamic Republic’s armed forces as the greatest protector of security and stability in the Persian Gulf region. “We will not allow foreign forces to threaten the security and clam of this region, in particular the sensitive Strait of Hormuz”, he said, referring to the strategic conduit where over a quarter of the world’s oil passes through each day.

In January, the U.S. announced that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards harassed three Coalition warships off the Strait of Hormuz, sending jitters along the global industry and financial markets. The Revolutionary Guards’ naval forces hastily departed as the Coalition commanders were preparing to open fire.

Are those tubes over the edge of the deck, for brass removal? Looks like they’re tube-fed from the back of the gun? Water cooling of the gun?

Looks like the uprights for the safety railing that have been removed so the gunner can depress the barrel.

I imagine a single Hellfire would be more than a little decisive in dealing with these gunboats.

Hmmmmmmmm? In 2002 the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) demonstrated the “China Cat” high speed boat prototype, for which Iran was the first customer. This ship uses the catamaran hull, 23 meters long, with a water line length of 14 meters. Powered by two diesel engines, the maximum speed approximately is 50 knots.

They are designed to carry up to “eight C-701 anti-ship cruise missiles” and usually have one gun. It is a fast attack craft designed for high speed and low cost.

OK?, now see 25-45 of these guys coming at you releasing all their missiles at once. I don’t think that 30mm?? cannon will do much to stop them. The Phalax may stop a few but some will get through. It won’t be an attack by just the fast boats, silk worms and fighter air craft will join the maylay. No time for bravado, its something to think and worry about. Take nothing for granted, you can’t laugh them off, they will create casualties for us.

i think a 2nd year jr college electronics student on a console somewhere inside a mountain outside of omaha should be able to incinerate these 74 little squirts on his lunch hour...say, as part of a class assignment....

The place that they are most likely to attack would be at the narrowest part of the gulf and that is when the Navy is at it’s highest alert. They will be seen by radar from an E-2 and the ship’s radar as soon as they leave the docks. It won’t be a Pearl Harbor surprise. The Navy will be ready.
