MARSHALL, MINN. - The 23-year-old woman whose van collided with a school bus was arrested Thursday afternoon and booked on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation in connection with the crash that killed four children near Cottonwood, Minn.
Alianiss Morales, of Minneota, Minn., is expected to be charged and make her first court appearance this morning, said Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes.
The Minnesota State Patrol's investigation of the crash continued Thursday, and Maes said much of the paperwork from the investigation was already on his desk.
"One [part of the investigation] is whether she was operating the vehicle in a grossly negligent manner," Maes said.
"So we need to look at what exactly witnesses identified at that particular intersection."
Maes would not elaborate on Morales' actions that led to the arrest, and declined to say whether she was speeding. Other charges are possible, but it is unlikely that other drivers involved will be charged, Maes said.
The driver of the pickup truck involved in the crash said that the van driven by Morales hit the side of the school bus at the intersection of Minnesota Hwy. 23 and County Road 24 near Cottonwood on Tuesday afternoon.
The bus skidded on its side into the pickup truck driven by James Hancock, 47, of Marshall, who is hospitalized with a broken leg, a broken hand and other injuries.
The children who died were Jesse Javens, 13, and Hunter Javens, 9, both of Cottonwood; Reed Stevens, 12, of Marshall; and Emilee Olson, 9, of Cottonwood. They were among 28 students on the bus. In addition to Hancock, eight children remained hospitalized in Sioux Falls, S.D., Marshall and Rochester.
Reactions to Morales' arrest were mixed at a prayer service Thursday.

I keep connecting the Michigan death last weekend with the deaths in Minnesota for a reason. Both were illegal aliens, both had prior run ins with the law and both worked in food processing or farming industries. 5 dead midwestern children in about 3 days at the hands of 2 illegal aliens.
You write: So you’re going to vote for a man with zero chance of winning in November for what reason?”
No, I am voting for McCain.......
The post was disrespectful and people that want to attach their own personal agenda to it are as well. So stick it twit.
You’re delusional. McCain can’t even match Hillary’s losing primary numbers. Here’s an interesting rundown on the numbers. 10 million primary votes for Hillary to lose with, compared to McCain’s 5 million plus winning votes.

But when innocent Americans, even children, die at the hand of illegals, it’s no big deal to our elites.
All of them in responsible for the continued illegal invasion. The Bush admin and the Dim-controlled Congress jsut refuse to do anything at the Federal level to stop the criminals’ invasion.
“The govt will rue the day they created all these scofflaws.”
No they won’t. We will.

Sanctuary Cities, USA
And where you see the cities, you follow the states! Meat packing plants, factories such as Electrolux, etc. All out for the almighty $$ at the expense of Americans and it’s LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
>As a former bus driver, I have always wondered (and pestered the higher ups) about WHY ARENT THERE SEATBELTS ON BUSES!? I never ever received a satisfactory answer.<
Where are you going to get drivers who can enforce the rules about wearing the seatbelt? Punks today tell their teachers to f off, the would probably stomp on the bus driver.
I picture the kids taking razor blades and cutting the belts off. Now what’s the school district to do? Using the bus without belts would be a violation of the law but they are responsible for getting the kids to their locations.
Too many problems with the idea.

“Cottonwood, MN — KARE-11 News has learned four charges of criminal vehicular homicide will be filed Friday morning against the woman driving a van which crashed into a Cottonwood school bus on Tuesday, killing four children and injuring several others.
Alianiss Nunez Morales, 23, of Minneota, was arrested Thursday.
All four criminal vehicular homicide charges are felonies. KARE has also learned she will also be charged with a stop sign violation, and driving with no driver’s license. Those violations are misdemeanors.
Authorities tell KARE she was on her way to work in Cottonwood when she ran the stop sign at the intersection of county road 24 and highway 23..................”
I had been told that the bus frame could not withstand the stress of the mass of a load of kids buckled in and would buckle in an impact, but that was long ago, and I am not sure it is accurate.
I heard years ago it would be "too expensive" for the school districts to install them in all their school buses, OTOH, I found it fascinating that the drivers had one. Does anyone know if some buses have them now?
Let's hope one does.
Four dead kids. I hope so too.
From a one-time homeschooling Mom to another: that ping is kind of sick.
Just like trout fishing ; Catch and Release !
Of those 45,000 Americans killed by illegals since 2001,how many were Latino gangbangers who happened to have American citizenship and how many were just”regular”Americans working hard and obeying the laws of the land?
Not trying to dispute your figures, but is there any way you could break it down?
“Looks like Hormel created a nuisance by attracting this woman to the US illegally. A smart lawyer could do wonders with a case like this.”
I think that this type of lawsuit, along with border protection, would go a LONG way in reducing the flow of illegals. And yes - I’d be willing to pay more for my SPAM.
I draw the line at SPAM.
