That's the home terf of the Univ of Chicago and 'leftists' (commies) by the dozens. It was and still is racially mixed. Used to be heavily Jewish, I 'think' a few remain.

They once scheduled a speech by George Lincoln Rockwell. Got moved from one venue to another because of a bomb threat.
