For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

Phoenix, Arizona — Following is Senator John McCain’s statement regarding Bruce Babbitt’s selection as nominee for Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior:

“I applaud President Clinton’s selection of Bruce Babbitt to head the Department of the Interior. Governor Babbitt is an excellent choice because of his familiarity with Arizona issues as well as land and natural resource matters across the nation. As a leading environmentalist, familiar with the concerns of those in the West where so much of our land is under the control of the federal government, he is uniquely qualified to administer this important agency.

With his knowledge and experience, it can easily be said that Bruce Babbitt is the most qualified individual available to fill this position in the Cabinet. I congratulate him on this important milestone, and I welcome his leadership in this most deserved post.”

McCain mentions his military career first so that when he’s attacked, he can say they’re attacking his patriotism instead of the dumb thing at hand. McCain’s a dodger and I don’t mean LA.

I know. But is there any substance to it? It just frustrates me that FR has been exposing this dog doo for years and after the MSM and the party elites weasel him into the nomination 60% are ready to crash and burn conservatism to support the Party and then one lame two decades old story is revived by the Slimes and now they want to toss him overboard and ride the ship over the falls.

Does Charlie Crist know Vicki? Does Jeb Bush know Vicki??? Was she a GOP ranger or anything? The RNC loves their big fundraisers.

I am beginning to see how it was politically expedient to use the role as a ‘maverick’ type. Anything goes because it is all about the ‘maverick’, just do not get in his way.

Battaglia, big time RNC from Florida. Office in DC too. I'll google him tomorrow. He knows everybody.

ANYWAY, ON FOX RADIO McCain said, "I can't comment now."

I repeat from the NYT Comments section: (A comment and opinion I relate to;)

Wait a second - even if this is true, and it sounds pretty vague, I thought we all stopped worrying about cheating spouses with Bill Clinton? How can it be okay for Bill but not for McCain? McCain never came out of church with a ten pound bible in his hands. This is shoddy journalism. I am not a McCain fan. I wanted Rudy. But it’s amazing to me how the NY Times can be counted on to find some piece of slime, whether substantiated or not, and fling it rightward over and over again. Screw this sickening turn in journalism. This just makes me determined to vote McCain in November.

The guy is a holier than thou MSM brown-noser.

It’s fun watching him get a whiff of his own nose.

Now he’s shocked that his nose stinks. He better get used to the smell.

In all the discussion in the media about this story, is anyone alleging that McCain has been improperly influenced, or has had an affair with this woman since around 2000? Anything recent?

Don’t forget they accused Bob Dole of having an affair while in a rehab hospital in D.C.

A broken analog clock is right twice a day.
A broken digital clock, however, doesn't display the time at all.

Well said. We all have difficulties dealing with our choices. But our men and women in uniform must not have to call Barry the Bomber Commander in Chief. Not ever.

Moveover:

Quote:

The main thing about this is how selective the NYT is. Remember Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky? Remember Bill Clinton and Paula Jones? Remember Bill Clinton and Kathleen Willey? Remember Bill Clinton and Juanita Broaddrick? Remember Bill Clinton and Gennifer Flowers? Remember Bill Clinton and Whitewater? Remember Bill Clinton and Web Hubbell?

With McCain, the NYT publishes a long article based on innuendo, with all parties denying anything happened. With Bill Clinton, the NYT defended him and considered detailed, specific charges of his improprieties, including specific dates, places, and times by the people involved, to not be ‘substantial enough’ to mention.

This is biased liberalism at its finest. The defense and ignoring of Bill Clinton’s behavior and the contrasting in depth reporting of unsubstantiated innuendo about McCain is a conscious effort to distort, misrepresent, and lie to further the fortunes of politicians they like.

But think about this: For those readers who went to college, think back to your college days and the personalities and intellectual abilities of the typical person who chose journalism as their major. Quite often, this was a major chosen by people who had below average mental abilities for college students. They were intellectually incapable of handling a major in math, science, economic theory, engineering, computers, or any other major that required an ability to think analytically or logically. Hence, from their limited ability to actually understand such things as economics or the effects of taxation policy, they write articles like this. They also are either unaware of the concept of impartiality, or they simply don’t care. They will do what they see as their part in furthering their ‘feel good’ unanalyzed, dimly comprehended, and intellectually unsupported politics.

So when you read such articles in such a newspaper, think back to your college days to put the authors in perspective.
