For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

Telecom is a huge business. Did ATT or Verizon get any special legislation by Juan? any of the Bells. How about Convergys? (Charlie Crist dismissed a case in Florida against them when he was Fla AG.). If MCCain helped Convergys, that would explain why Crist tagged along, city to city instead of being Florida's Governor.

Maybe we should call him DON JUAN MCCAIN now...

I’m beginning to think the senate is all one big bordello and all the male senators need some strong saltpeter.

Okay well your explanation is closer to it. I’ll accept that, though still it is short of how I would normally define hero. This isn’t an issue deeply important to me. If everyone else is okay with calling captured people heroes then I’ll go along with it.

Fair enough. In any event, there's enough to consider about McCain without picking apart his service in the USN, especially here, where we normally give people who serve the benefit of the doubt.

So this must mean that the NYT is close to breaking the Obama homo-limosine story?

My thoughts exactly. . .

Meantime, we can perhaps, assume that these people feel a threat in the making and want to take it down more than a notch. . .starting , now.

But then, they probably are working to insure they have a leak of the week plan lest this Election roll out of control. . .

Bob Bennett just wrote a book which is “inaccurate” now per Bennett himself because he was unaware of these allegations.

The double standard doesn’t apply here because McCain isn’t a Republican.

He attended two meetings. The first at the behest of Keating and the second at the behest of DiConcini. Full transcripts are available. He specifically says that he wants no special favors. To insist that he is “not innocent” is a misuse of semantics to indict him.

Here is some more information about what McCain was saying about the WQEX public Pittsburgh station brouhaha. Looks like the FCC was playing games.

WQEX deal wins at FCC, loses in the end

BTW, for irony WQEX television is now Shop NBC.

TV Notes: WQEX to become ShopNBC

What I think it means is that they know he doesn’t control his urges, just like 90% of politicians. These guys love the goodies that come with power, especially the women. Most of them have no morals or principles.
