Early in Senator John McCains first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a clients corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself instructing staff members to block the womans access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyists clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.
IIRC, McCain's lawyer is also Bill Clinton's. Or am I wrong.
Just because McCain is a shite head on Immigration doesn’t mean he deserves to be slandered in this way...if this was true for even 1 second..Romney would have found it and caned him with it..remember how ugly Fla was??
Nothing that dramatic. Just bimbo eruption supression.
some of us see, but most don’t
OUCH!! mewzilla, I had forgotten about that story!! McCain and the Russian mob...Goes with his AZ mob ties story that also gets “0” press, doesn’t it?
His first wife, Carol was a model, and I *would* like to see what she looked like say in 1960 or so.
It’s in the spin cycle now.
FWIW, that sounds like a non-denial denial to me, anyway.
I reckon I like romance as much as anyone, but there is a time to stand up and put your britches on. Looks like we are stuck with a bunch of “leaders” unable to control their impulses.
At least he’s not gay.
Yep, Bob Bennett, he is used to bimbo eruptions! LOL
He is NOW. At least to the MSM who fawned over him for so many years.
McCain didn’t just disagree with the base, he was downright hostile. I’ll find it very difficult to reconcile with him. Moreover, theres another part of me that doesn’t want him to pander to us out of political desperation. I agree with Rush that McCain’s strength lies in “being true to himself”, as bizarre as that sounds.
Agreed. Thanks.
Talk about deluding themselves, that is rich.
If they don’t pin a serious scandal on Obama, he’s going to beat McNut by 10 points. Which will be the largest landslide victory in our history (at least modern times).
What on earth makes you think a 72 year old white man who has spent his whole life since the Vietnam war as a Politician and is now for having a short fuse, is going to win the election in 2008? He makes Dole look like a power house nominee!
I had to read that statement twice and then a third time before concluding that it was not satire.

This is shamefull NYT!! You use two disillusioned former staffers speaking on condition of anonymity to alledge an affair that is not proven anywhere in the story and to rehash minor scandals that every politician has in his/her profile. When are you going to run a five page expose on Tony Rezko and the Chicago political machine from which Obama came? Now there is a scandale ripe for explanation, especially since he goes on trial in to weeks.
This is sleezy, sloppy, an unetical tabloid journalism at its best. The Fourth Estate needs to start doing its job correctly.
john, illinois
Then Cindy is his current wife? She doesn’t look anything like that. I guess plastic surgery is ubiquitous.

And don’t forget our good friend mewzilla’s 341 post here with the Russian mob link to McCain/his campaign...
