Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

$5. NYT CAN'T hold on to McCain story for later (like the 4th week in October 08, similar to the GWB DUI) and must use it NOW before the OBAMA story goes "critical mass".
#6. NYT "leaks" McCain story.
#7. McCain denies story.
#8. Obama story FINALLY breaks big enough to be talked about by MSM talking heads.
#9. MSM "discovers" leak of the story is found to have come from the "McCain camp".
#10. Obama camp is "OUTRAGED!!!!!!!!!" Tells everyone that this is the old RNC dirty tricks that WHEN he's (Obama) elected POTUS he will put a FINAL end to all this "politics as usual"!!!!
#11. Nov 5th, 2008. McCain personally thanks Guam for their votes to him since it is the only place nationwide that McCain tallies more votes than Obama.
#12. Obama and Michelle start the "Change America (to a 3rd world power) Tour on Jan 20th, 2009.
Someone, somewhere really needs to publish or make public, Rutenberg and Pinch Sulzberger’s home address and phone number. It is clear from the outset that he wasn’t dating the lobbyist...

His lawyer was just on Fox, and McCain has released comments attacking the NYTs.
This is just a big conspiracy to smear Bush, errr, ugghhh I mean McCain, uhhhggg hmmmmm.
Drudge is helping the smear right along..he is such a loser.
I thought they would wait a little longer before they gored his political ox. The question is how many more shoes will drop, we here on the freep have heard rumors about McCain for eons....

It is bad enough I won't vote for McCain, but I'll NEVER vote for that *&!#k Huckabee for what he has done to the party....

I have close family members in the military and we do not want McCain as commander in chief. He is mentally not right, he is a pathological liar, and his dealings with the POW/MIA issues has been disgusting. What is McCain goes ballistic while in the White House?
It would be easier for McCain to swallow, if he had a base to defend him from these allegations. But he had to throw it all away last year.

You are right about that. I really think this guy is not right and is far from honest and principled.
How could ANYone in their right mind vote for this jerk? With a face like that? With a personality like that? A guy who carries himself around as though he was about to physically attack others, like he’s been on the slim jim and can’t wait for a fight? That is not “presidential”, nor is it “senatorial”...

The New York Times should be ashamed of this smear job it has perpetrated. It reminds me of the General Petraeus General Betray us ad the New York Times printed not long ago.
Why would The New York Times smear a highly respected war hero and Senator who has done nothing but bring the highest credit to our nation.
People all across the political spectrum will reject this as nothing but a pure hit piece against Senator McCain.
The New York Times has sunk to a new low.
