For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk [McCain had an affair?]
New York Times ^ | February 21, 2008 | JIM RUTENBERG, MARILYN W. THOMPSON, DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and STEPHEN LABATON

Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s clients, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.

Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship.

To me- the MAJOR story here (McCain is already dirtier than dirt) is the DIRECT and CLEAR attempt of the Hew York Times to manipulate the outcome of election.

They had this in DECEMBER- they sat on it til AFTER MCCain had in all likelihood gotten the nod from the GOP...

I’ve never liked McCain but this story sets off my BSh’t meter...

Now, not only will I vote for him, I’ll send money.
This story has no evidence of an affair and a denial from Iseman. Typical powermongering liberal media tactics.

Checkbook coming out....and where is the front page NYT Sinclair Obama homo story??

I thought the SHE-DEVIL was suppose to go after OSama’s throat, not McPain...why so early...that folks is the million dollar question! WHY NOW...it doesn’t make sense only that our party is so screwed if this sticks to McNasty. Pray, and pray hard that the superdelegates have enough nerve to elect Romney!

Where do you get off calling me a liberal? Just because I don’t want a theocracy doesn’t make me a liberal.

I wonder which poor staffer was sent to Olbermann’s house to pick up new underwear after he wet himself in excitement at this story.

Hey, it’s not a dream. It is reality. If the GOP had taken their heads out of their posterior, they would have stopped McCain early in this campaign. The McCain campaign staff knew about this in 2000. The guy has a history of adultery, so why would he get a benefit of doubt? Sorry, you pick a guy like this for a nominee, you get what you pay for. Thank McCain and the GOP leadership for the past 8 years. They have totally destroyed our majority in the Senate, the House of Representatives, and soon the Supreme Court. Are we all happy now?

Now, not only will I vote for him, I’ll send money.

Exactly my reaction.

McCain is McCain but the real domestic enemy is the left.

Nobody should ever lose sight of that.

...AND it’s just broke on Lou Dobbs who said, essentialy, “I was just handed this...”

WOW!! A bombshell, and they (The NY Times) has held this for MONTHS!! Think about how Mitt Romney and his supporters must feel...If this “energizes” Suckabee, I’d say “Be careful!”, because this is NOT necessarily a good thing for him.

Romney should UN-suspend his campaign. He practically beat Suckabee in Wisconsin yesterday—and he wasn’t even in the race!

You have to understand, there are people here on FR who would destroy the country thinking they would get *their* way in 2010 and 2012. These people cannot think beyond their hands and and don’t comprehend that dems usually attempt to screw the country after promising to do so.

There are also people on here who consider a kook like Alan Keyes to be a viable presidential candidate.

I feel the exact same way. If the Dems are so confident that Obama is the savior of America why are they pulling crap like this. I hope the Sinclair guy passes his lie detedtor test and it runs in bold type that Obama is a drug using homo. What BS.

It is your dream, be honest about it. You want McCain to lse, ergo you want Obama to win.

I don;t want thst socialist know nothing anywhere near the White House. you do, by proxy.

That's the fact of the matter.

What theocracy? The Obama one? The Huckster? Forget it.

Neither one is a problem. The Clintonacracy? Most likely. Now they have proved all of the GOP to be hypocrites.

After 2006, and now this? Geesh.
