A Bentonville High School math teacher faces two charges after being arrested in connection with inappropriate contact with students.

Melissa G. Monroe, 32 of Bella Vista, was arrested Tuesday for sexual assault in the second degree and knowingly furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Bentonville police began investigating after receiving information that Monroe had been involved in a sexual relationship with a male student, a police news release states.

Monroe is in the Benton County Jail awaiting a bond and probable-cause hearing. For full details, see Wednesday’s edition of The Daily Record.

BENTONVILLE - A Bentonville High School math teacher was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a male student. Melissa G. Monroe, 32, of Bella Vista, is being held in the Benton County Jail awaiting a bond and probable-cause hearing. She was arrested for sexual assault in the second degree, a class B felony; and knowingly furnishing alcohol to a minor, a class C misdemeanor. According to a news release from the Bentonville Police Department, her arrest was the result of an investigation that began after police received information accusing Monroe of having a sexual relationship with a student. Police were able to determined the alleged incident happened last month at Monroe's residence, according to the release. Monroe was arrested under a sexual-assault statute that concerns a public school teacher - who teaches any grade from kindergarten to 12 th - engaging in sexual contact with another person who is a student enrolled in the public school and who is less than 21 years of age. "This is a personnel issue," BHS principal Steve Jacoby said Tuesday. "She has been suspended." According to Jacoby, Moore - a graduate of the University of Arkansas - has been teaching math in the Bentonville School District for seven years. "We are working closely with the Bentonville Police Department through the school resource officer to complete this investigation," Jacoby said. "I learned of it (Tuesday ) while working with the Police Department. I had no prior knowledge of this incident." Jacoby said he informed the faculty Tuesday afternoon of the incident. "They were disappointed and were hurt," Jacoby said. "There were tears. They are professionals and know the responsibilities they have to take care of, but most importantly handle this in a positive way. "We will evaluate the options and do what's in the best interest of teaching and learning, in her classes specifically and in the school generally." There have been other recent cases in Benton County in which teachers had inappropriate relationships with students. In March 2001, Jennifer Williams, a teacher at Lincoln Junior High School in Bentonville, was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student. She later pleaded guilty to violation of a minor in the first degree. She was placed on probation for five years and was required to register as a sex offender. Last month, Casey Helms, a former Gravette High School drama teacher, admitted having sexual contact with a 17-year-old female student. Helms, 32, pleaded guilty to sexual assault in the second degree. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

I did go on a date with a female professor who was teaching me international law in grad school...she was 30, I was 25. Oh my those May-December ones. I liked her. She even went to a few barhopping occasions in Boston. Boy I miss those days.

BTW: yes, I got an A plus in that class. 4.0 LOL

All of my female teachers were either “mother” types (not MILFs), grandmothers or hags. The rest were men. I never had a single teacher I had any fantasies about. The closest was this young Black lady who was a Vice-Principal, I was probably about 8 years old at the time and she was in her 30s. She’s got to be almost 60 now. *shudders*
